To ask you about your experiences with chicken pox as an adult?

DD came out in chicken pox 15 days ago. Absolutely fine with it, no problem, and is now recovered bar a couple of scabs.

Me, on the other hand...

I never had chicken pox as a child according to DMum, and I am inclined to believe her as my sister got chicken pox from her DC in October.

Since Thursday, I have been feeling dreadful. It started with body aches and now I have a temperature and sore throat. Also, the left side of my face is hot and swollen. But no spots yet. I have to say, I feel completely and utterly rotten. And I feel worse because I can't pinpoint exactly what it is

yet, so make myself paranoid.

If you have had chicken pox as an adult, what was your experience like? Was it hell on Earth, like this?

DH caught it from kids never knowing he hadn't had it as a child. He demanded GO came as he had never felt so I'll in all his life. No spots yet. Got worse..spots appeared...hundreds of them.GP came back and insisted he needed to be hospitalised. He refused 🙄 spent a week on painkillers sitting in a cold bath.said it was a feeling like nothing else. Hope you feel better soon.

I hate to break it to you but you will be off for at least a week - I had two with it as you need to follow the same rules that you cant leave the house until they are scabbed over

Definitely no ibuprofen as that can make them 100 times worse due to the inflamatory reaction

Sadly antivirals are rarely given and need to be done straightaway to be effective so you probably just need to ride it out

Tell your DH to look up how bad chicken pox is in adults and start to get some sympathy

Oh bless you. I haven’t developed any after feeling like death over the weekend so I think I’m in the clear but I have terrible paranoid itching Grin

You must feel rotten. I hope you’ve read him the riot act. Selfish twat. Hope it’s not too bad for you. My son who was coping brilliantly is inconsolable today, poor thing.

Echoing everyone else here, your DH needs to look up “chicken pox in adults” because it can be very severe and can in a minority of cases be life threatening. For him to be saying he won’t come home unless you are in dire straits or DD is playing up isn’t on.

It’s not “just chicken pox” in adults. I got it even after antivirals and still felt rubbish but nothing to what o would have experienced without them .
