To ask why white football shirts look like they’ve been used to wrap up fish and chips?

My children have got a couple of white football shirts each. They ALL look like they are covered in grease stains front and back. None of our other clothes look like this so I can’t understand it! They all look like the paper looks when you’ve unwrapped your fish and chips from it...

AIBU to ask if everyone else’s white football shirts look like this, what’s causing it and why only white football shirts? And how can I clean them up?

  • The shirts haven’t been near grease or greasy fingers. One of them has been treated particularly carefully and hasn’t even been used to play football in.
  • I’ve tried a stain bar and soaking in washing up liquid as well as normal washing, but nothing has made a difference. I’ve also hung them all out on a really sunny day but that didn’t help either.
  • I know the answer is not to buy white, but one is the colour of the team they support and another is a school pe kit.
  • I don’t think it’s the washing machine as no other clothes look greasy, even white polo shirts, shirts and normal T-shirts. Must be something to do with white polyester?
