Donor eggs & higher pregnancy success

My friend is 44 and is trying for a baby via ivf. They have had 2 failed cycles already & are now looking at donor eggs. The clinic have told them that rates of success are way higher.
Aibu to ask for any success stories? Anyone know success rates with donor eggs- they are really desperate for a baby but I can’t help feeling a bit like the clinic is giving them false hope. It’s all really awful & I feel for them as they so want to be parents

no personal experience but a friend at 44 had 3 failed cycles with her own eggs. Then pregnant with twins on cycle #3 of ivf with donor eggs. Worked in rhe end! She went to Spain as cheaper and anonymous donor

One of my NCT friends had a few failed cycles with her own eggs and now has 2 DDs using donor eggs. She was I think 42 and 44. She went to Spain as well. They even had a couple of left over embryos they donated.

It depends why your friend’s cycles have failed. If her eggs didn’t mature / fertilise / grow, then donor eggs may really help her. If the problem is the sperm, or her womb lining or immune system, then donor eggs won’t help. But generally the clinic are right that the success rate is much better with donor eggs, because they are usually from younger women. She might be better off with eggs from Spain (where they tend to donate young) than eggs from UK.

I have a son from a donor egg. My eggs were past sell by date by my early 30s due to endometriosis. Had 3 failed ivf attempts with own eggs.. 4th go with a donor (and a new man as was dumped by exh after 3rd go). Was given a 40pc chance with the donor egg since donor was 28. We lucked out. Our son is now 11 and the light of our lives! My treatment was in the UK

One thing i do hear about in clinics is all these add ons to treatments- egg washing or other such treatments supposed to increase chances yet lots not medically proven to help success. Something to be aware of

I'm an egg donor (donated at age 33) and my recipients have had 3 pregnancies from my one round of donation. There are lots of advantages to future children to getting your donation in the UK (regulation, counselling and chance for a child to find out about the donor when they reach 18 - having 3 children born by sperm donation this is something that you don't think about much beforehand and I'm so grateful for now) and not abroad.

A friend of mine had had 2 DC from donor eggs. Her age and declining egg production were against her. She had her last baby when she was 48. The first one when she was 44/45.

Am 47 and almost 27 weeks pregnant with donor egg ivf twins. Didn’t try using my own eggs first as, apart from not getting pregnant, there was no reason I shouldn’t have been able to conceive naturally and was told by NHS consultant that donor eggs were likely to be my only choice. Was our 2nd cycle of self funded ivf. Clinic we used has very good results for DE IVF.

As a contrast, a good friend had twins at Christmas last year using her own eggs - she’s the same age as me but has anatomical reasons for not being able to conceive as does her husband. They have spent at least 10 years trying to get pregnant via IVF and the embryos used for her successful cycle last year were the last they had in storage and they had decided not to have any further treatment.

Yes. We went to Spain several years ago. Worked first time when it had failed with my own, poor quality, eggs. It was very smooth and efficient, would definitely recommend it.

Two friends have had success first time around in Spain. Donor egg and donor sperm for them tho, as problems on both sides. Both couples in their early 40s.
