Mother will serve you now

I work in finance, large bling corporate office. Recently new vending machines were installed in the canteens and I was really pleased as they’re contactless (I never have cash on me so finally can buy something for the 3pm sugar cravings!) and they actually stock nice things.

So far so good. But some marketing ‘genius’ decided to call the vending machines ‘Mother’. And when you pay, a breezy digital display flashes ‘Mother will serve you now’ or something along these lines.

AIBU to be annoyed every time this comes up? As a mother, it reads pretty reductive - surely we do far more than serve snacks to all and sundry? And don’t even get me started on subtle messaging it conveys to fellow professional females in still quite a male industry...

Or am I just being too precious here?

Awful

And IF this is the name of the company, this is an equally awful way to play on words/their name etc....

It's insidious sexism and would really annoy me too. Tbh, I think it's somehow worse if they've decided to call a whole catering/snacks company 'Mother'!

Just checked the link and total bro tech company. 20% women in the work force, founder and SLT team are all men, branding and marketing is a man.

I think this is one of those cases where if there was even just a little bit of diversity in the board room, someone would have chimed in to say "Does anyone thing this branding is a bit demeaning? I wonder if what you think is cute marketing may actually alienate potential customers..."

I would not like this myself. It would not happen in my company, thankfully, as the minute it did there would be a queue at my door (HR) and a queue at the Unions door demanding something was done! Why does it need a name at all - I will serve you now would work wouldnt it? Or have it say nothing, its a machine after all....

I find it weird. Probably more dystopian than offensive.
