To ask how to get rid of all this hair?!

I'm 20 weeks pregnant and am covered in hair. I've always been hairy, but this is something else, I can't believe it.

I've suffered a lot with sickness and low blood pressure so far and have not kept on top of my epilation routine and it's got me really down.

The hair on my legs has changed and become wiry and very stubborn to remove. It bleeds when I have tried wax strips and my epilator. It didn't used to to this. It's actually uncomfortable when my socks or jeans rub the hair - again, this is a new pregnant thing for me.

My bikini line is like a pair of hairy shorts that is growing further down my thighs than I thought was possible. It's more jungle than garden.

I've got dark hair and very pale skin which shows hair in underneath it when I shave so I avoid doing this. I get a lot of ingrown hairs too.

I really want to be able to wear some summer dresses and skirts to keep cool (I'm constantly a bit too hot at the moment) but I really can't parade my Bigfoot legs at work like they are.

Please fellow hairy pregnant ladies, give me your best advice for de-Sasquatch-ing!!! Blush

try nair hair removal cream x

sleepismysuperpower1 · 08/06/2019 15:37

oh, and use a face cloth that is wet to remove the cream rather than the tiny spatula. works the same just much quicker

HJWT · 08/06/2019 16:11

Have you tried finding a good beautician for a wax? My sis does a lot of pregnant ladies so finding a good one who has experienced it before may help xx

pattyhoo · 08/06/2019 16:46

I've got some hair removal cream to try this weekend, I've previously had rashes from using it, but I figured trying again it might have changed (it's been a few years since I last used it).

I've had waxes in the past with mixed results - which has made me slightly scared of trying another place. Last wax was so awful I had I had to stop the waxer because she was taking skin off! I couldn't wear my bikini on holiday because of the soreness (such a nightmare!). Previous waxers have said my skin isn't very suited to it Confused

I'd love to find a good waxer that can handle my delicate sensitive skin and super tough hair!

I don’t know if you can use a laser treatment like the lumea when pregnant but it sounds like your skin and hair colour would allow this to work very well. I have one which I got in an offer with money off at boots and is not if the best things I have ever bought. If it can’t be used in pregnancy it might be worth thinking about after, I have only the tiniest amount of hair now and only shave off the odd few hairs before I do each treatment top up now, and my skin is lovely and smooth.

Preggosaurus9 · 08/06/2019 17:25

As a fellow pregnant Sasquatch, step 1 is to lower your expectations. The hair showing through the skin thing is something to accept I'm afraid. Pregnancy does weird things to the body including extra body hair Confused

Legs. Try the hair removal cream and then gently shave every couple of days to keep on top of it.

Bikini line. Try gently shaving with a fresh razor and lots of shaving foam. If you have reacted in the past I wouldn't use hair removal cream there!

The good news is, people really aren't looking at your legs/bikini line half as much as you think they are. Good luck!

Maybe it's a sign you are going to give birth to a little Chewbakka??

pattyhoo · 08/06/2019 17:32

@Walkamileinmyshoesbeforeujudge I am genuinely expecting one of those Grin according to all accounts I had a full head of dark hair when I arrived!

@Harryrotter I'd love to try the lumea but I've read it might not be safe during pregnancy (chance it might discolour the skin). I am quite tempted because I look like a plucked chicken when I shave!

I should have said in my original post, I'm getting married and going on honeymoon in a few weeks which is why I'm feeling extra self conscious about the Sasquatch look 👀

I had this and then I gave birth to an actual monkey with hairy back and hairy ears too. She was worth it tho. Enjoy your new hirsute pregnancy 'glow'

MitziK · 08/06/2019 18:34

Don't put Veet on without doing a test patch on your wrist first.

I developed an allergy to the stuff - chemical burns (all over my lower legs in under 90 seconds - thank fuck I wasn't doing my bikini line) really hurt.

It's worth making sure that you aren't so tender because you're swelling up - I got progressively more tender skin right and couldn't stand having my legs touched at all; turned out my blood pressure was up, I was getting protein in my urine and, had I not gone into labour that night, they were going to bring me in to avoid it potentially becoming dangerous.

Other than that, your DP knocked you up - the least he can do is help defoliate with a brand new razor especially if you haven't seen your feet for a while

ChristmasFluff · 08/06/2019 20:24

I'd shave - so much faster, easier, and unpainful.

I always shaved, and now (54) have completely naturally hairfree legs. Never had a massive bikini line, but it is now non-existent.

So don't let the horror stories put you off. Shave away.

Blizy · 08/06/2019 20:29

Be careful with the hair removal cream! I used it when pregnant (had used it i the past) and my legs were covered in chemical burns!

Howzaboutye · 08/06/2019 20:33

Maxi dresses are your friends!
You won't be able to see anywhere south soon, so don't worry X

MissCharleyP · 08/06/2019 20:39

See if you can find somewhere that does hot waxing for all areas, rather than strips. Most salons use hot wax (if they use it at all) only on Brazilian/Hollywood waxes but some do use it on all areas and it’s much less painful and doesn’t tear the skin. Try looking on Treatwell, or I can PM you the name of my old salon if you’re anywhere near East Herts.

I was super hairy when pregnant with my little boy even my arms where really bad (he was born really hairy he had a full head of jet black hair) it's curly now and out of control and he's only 5.5 months old 😂
I used to only shave up-to the knee and under arms... everywhere else I went eu natural.... apart from the lady garden but I used veet hair removal cream (even though it probably looked like a patchwork quilt afterwards because I couldn't see what I was doing)
