To ignore a bill with my name written incorrectly?

Ok, I’m prepared to get roasted for this but hear me out.

We live in an EU country where it is required that one person from each household pays a yearly fee for public broadcasting, tv etc. We are renting our apartment, don’t have a tv and never had.

My DP already paid a huge amount after we received loads of letters and reminders. At the same time they were sending me letters with my correct name but Mr instead of Ms.

AIBU to ignore these letters as there is no Mr (my name) at this address, and we have already paid hundreds for this service we don’t even use?

By the way the payment is not enforced by the department of finance nor do they bring any debt collectors on board. It feels like harassment for something we do not and never will use.

Has your DP paid for this year? Surely you'd just let them know that Mr whoever doesn't exist and DP has paid for your household?

Not paying might be risky, might be fine. We can't really advise. It's not just about debt collectors and credit files, but things like whether it will affect your residency there, whether you end up with a criminal record should they ever decide to prosecute, etc.

Either the household owes money or it doesn't. I very much doubt that a minor error (in your title, not your name) releases you from any liability.

If it is required by law pay it. If it isn’t, don’t

When you say ‘etc’ are you clear what that is? We have to pay a fee for accessing the internet in the EU country I live in.
I’m pretty sure the incorrect prefix on your name isn’t any mitigation for not paying.

If you can think of an actual reason not to pay, because an error in your name isn't one, then fair enough. If not, pay.

thanks for the responses. i'll double check if its required by law then proceed.
