If you have been in hospital for a serious op what was the best gift you received?

It's for my Dad.
I've bought a small jigsaw, and I have seen some puzzles. Any other good ideas to keep him occupied?

If he will be using a phone a long charging lead and earphones.

Food - last time the hospital food apart from breakfast (cereal and yogurt) was dreadful.

When I was in you had to pay to watch tv. If it’s the same type of system and your father might like to watch that would be a good idea.

My Dad was in hospital for a while when I was about 11, someone gave him a little wooden solitaire board, he loved it and taught me to play!

How long in there for?

If extended, pay for private room with en-suite. It will be the absolute best thing you could buy him whilst in hospital!

These are great suggestions. Thank you very much everyone.

If serious OP he may feel too ill to do something taxing like a jigsaw puzzle.
I liked very easy to read magazines, snacks and nice drinks. Music to listen to. And agree with short visits. I also liked being on a large ward as watching everything going on stopped me being bored, but was as much as I could cope with. If you are not well a private room can be very isolating.

Also wet wipes.

My OH bought me a kindle with a book already downloaded to it that I'd been interested in, it was the best present ever!

Earplugs
A music device & headphones
Top up card for the ridiculously expensive tv system
Books/magazines
Mint breath spray
Hand wipes
Flip flops for the shower
