To think its not of this strangers business what I drink?

I was minding my own business waiting for a bus and a man came up to me and told me that fizzy pop is bad for me. WIBU to have just glared at him and told him to go away?

In was kind of a tongue in cheek reference to the dentist thread and certain posters taking offence at the ops use of the word elderly.

In reference to your op, I think you need to lighten up. The bloke passed an inane comment on your drink, your choice if you want to exchange small talk back but it most definitely doesn’t warrant a glare.

Schnitzelvonkrumb · 08/06/2019 12:21

I drink diet coke at any time of day. I'm not hurting anyone else by doing it and would ignore comments including those from friends/family who I don't believe are any more virtuous or healthy than me, they just don't happen to drink DC

Beautiful3 · 08/06/2019 12:22

I would have thought it too, but wouldnt actually say it. Pop is so bad for you. An old collegue had a cola addiction. Her teeth were literally brown stumps. She knew was addicted but couldn't give it up.

I only drink water now. Gave up tea/coffee/pop last year. I feel wonderful every day. I remember around eight years ago one of our students collapsed and got blue lighted to hospital. Turned out his energy drink consumption was the cause of it. Energy drinks with their high caffeine content, are so dangerous.

ivykaty44 · 08/06/2019 12:23

Flutra- you may have had diarrhoea and using the coke as medicine for all anyone would have known, hangover cure

I judge people drinking fizzy drinks at 9am but I don’t say it out loud as I don’t know the circumstances

sheshootssheimplores · 08/06/2019 12:23

It still will have an affect, artificial sweeteners are even worse.

sheshootssheimplores · 08/06/2019 12:23

*effect

LadyRannaldini · 08/06/2019 12:24

Is he wrong ? that is the bigger question.

Yes, he is wrong, he might finish up wearing the Coke if he interferes too often.

sheshootssheimplores · 08/06/2019 12:25

Schnitzelvonkrumb maybe you will be hurting someone else down the line when your unhealthy choices lead to a health crisis and you become unwell. Perhaps you'll hurt your loved ones and they’ll wish you’d looked after yourself better 🤷‍♀️

ohdearmymistake · 08/06/2019 12:25

He's not wrong though is he, I have seen an idiot fill a baby bottle of the stuff and give it to the poor child in a buggy. I was so tempted to say something but didn't.

Marvinmarvinson · 08/06/2019 12:26

I knew it would be diet coke.

In my experience the people who love to pass judgement on my diet coke habits are the people who binge drink alcohol or spend the day drinking multiple cups of tea or coffee. I indulge in none of those things, so if I want to drink a diet coke at any time of the day then I will.

jennymanara · 08/06/2019 12:27

I would assume that either it was a crap chat up line, or he was autistic and did not understand that saying things like that to strangers was not okay.

viques · 08/06/2019 12:28

I always silently judge anyone over the age of about 18 drinking fizzy drinks because to me they are kids drinks.

Clutches pearls and fire extinguisher.

Duchessgummybuns · 08/06/2019 12:31

I was in spoons this morning for breakfast and people were already sinking pints at 9am so it could be worse Grin still that’s their business

MummyCJW · 08/06/2019 12:31

I wouldn't get caught up thinking about what a stranger thinks. Saying this I love Dr Pepper and never think about the time of day, If I fancy a glass I'll have it. I wouldn't say oh no its too early or late tbh.
Everyone has their opinions, but it's rather strange to walk up to a stranger and mention that drinking fizzy is bad.
It's your body, you know what your consuming, I wouldnt let a strangers opinion have an impact on you.

Marvinmarvinson · 08/06/2019 12:32

Honestly, there is always a mumsnetter probably staring at you with a cats bum mouth judging you for something.

Holding your cutlery the wrong way, having children with more than one partner, being a young mum, being an old mum, having tattoos, not being groomed enough, being too groomed, being overweight, being skinny, eating in public, answering the phone the wrong way, attempting to make small talk, not attempting to make small talk, being too introverted, being too extroverted. These are all things I've seen judged on here.

So, nope, I'm never going to give a shit that a mumsnetter judges my diet coke consumption. If I stopped they'd find something else to judge on.

mabelsgarden · 08/06/2019 12:35

YANBU. Bet this cheeky fecker wouldn't have said the same thing to a man. Hmm

I hate nosey intrusive twats like this. They're nearly always men too.

Is this a joke? Confused

BigChocFrenzy · 08/06/2019 12:38

Flavoured fizzy junk is a crap choice,
but he made a worse one by sticking his beak into someone else's legal choice

Reasonable to complain about noise, smoke, bad language etc affecting you, but not what people choose to do to their own bodies

Several AIBU threads going about busybodies telling off women, but I can't remember one about telling off a man in public Hmm
(unless his choices were affecting other members of the public)

mabelsgarden · 08/06/2019 12:41

This. ^ I have had comments from other people (often older and sometimes relatives,) about drinking a can of red bull when I had had 5 hours sleep in 2 nights. Or drinking coke.

Yet THEY smoke, and knock back a bottle of whiskey of week, and also eat fried everything, and red meat every day (I am a veggie.) So they all can fuck right off.

It's an opinion dear.

Posted too soon sorry.

Yeah this is what I said. Nosey busybody men NEVER say the same things to other men, but gotta put those silly women in their place eh? Hmm

And if you ignore them, you get called ignorant or miserable by said nosey cunts.

mabelsgarden · 08/06/2019 12:44

@viques

OK darling.

mabelsgarden · 08/06/2019 12:45

@viques

MY opinion 'dear,' is that anyone who judges people over 18 for having fizzy drinks is a nosey judgemental busybody who needs to keep their sticky beak out of other people business.

PutyourtoponTrevor · 08/06/2019 13:01

I drink around 4 cans of diet coke a day and my teeth are perfect, no fillings and no losses

viques · 08/06/2019 13:02

mabelsgarden

Well there you go.

I prefer to keep my judging in check and not allow my thoughts to spill out in an incoherent rant , but we all do what we need to do.
