That went out of date last night June 7th.

It's only a few hours over.....

Had it in my head that it was use by today! 😫

I read it as to cook children Grin
That date is fine OP honestly. Don't waste it. You'll be fine

BeanBag7 · 08/06/2019 07:54

I would. I cook "out of date" stuff all the time. Give it a sniff and if it smells fine then its fine

MustardScreams · 08/06/2019 07:54

The chicken doesn’t know the date. The bacteria don’t wait until midnight and then suddenly spring into action and make it poisonous! Just smell it, you’ll know it it’s off.

Livpool · 08/06/2019 07:55

Absolutely fine

cherrryontop · 08/06/2019 07:55

I've had pretty bad food poisoning before so I'm really cautious with meat but I won't have time to go to the shops I was going to fling it in the slow cooker and go out for the day.

Thanks! Will see how it smells and go from there..

It will be fine it isn't going to go out of date at midnight 7th June, you will know if it's gone off as it will be all slimy and will absolutely stink when u start cooking it. So unless this is the case I would cook and eat it.

Hassled · 08/06/2019 07:56

Off chicken is very obviously off - there's a slime and a smell to it. I don't think you can cook dodgy chicken and not realise.

cherrryontop · 08/06/2019 07:57

Wow it really stinks. It actually smells like it's rotten.

Asda must have their use by dates down to a tee!

I have some diced chicken in the freezer I can use instead.

I've never slow cooked frozen chicken is it just as nice as fresh when cooked?

Wouldn't be sure about putting frozen chicken into the slow cooker either.... I'd just pick up a cooked chicken on your way home today if I were you

user1474894224 · 08/06/2019 08:15

I'm really lax on my cooking rules ...I would have smelt the chicken. I also sometimes cook frozen chicken - which isn't normally recommended. However, I wouldn't use a slow cooker on frozen chicken. I would leave in the fridge and put it in the oven when you get home or cook it on the hob. Do you have a pressure cooker? You could speed up cooking in that. Or put all the veg/sauce in the slow cooker today then pan fry the chicken later and add to the sauce.

cherrryontop · 08/06/2019 09:31

I had a quick google and read about bacteria growth in slow cookers with frozen chicken so I didn't bother.

We have to rethink tea!

Never mind!
