Mine are -

Starting to drive off, then putting your seat belt on whilst trying to control the car at the same time. Why? It can't save more than a second, looks awkward, and is dangerous!

Putting bananas into a little plastic bag before putting them in the trolley - the only reason I can see for the plastic bags is to keep loose veg together, or to keep edible parts clean, neither of which applies to bananas, so what's the point?

Taking shopping trollies back to the trolley park but not actually connecting them up with the ones already there - you've done about 95% of the effort, is it really that hard to make someone else's life a bit easier by putting it away properly?

( Yes, mine do seem to be mostly supermarket related but I suppose that's where I come across other people most of the time!)

Actually, I do have one non-supermarket one - people only using one half of a set of double doors when there is a queue of people all wanting to go through - they all line up patiently to go through the one door rather than just OPENING THE OTHER ONE!!

I meant sports fandom is too much angst

se22mother · 08/06/2019 18:43

People who sit on the aisle seat of a bus or train with their bag next to them

Clusterfukt · 08/06/2019 18:49

People who moan about kids standing in super market trollies, apparently it’s unhygienic, as if the trollies haven’t been pissed on by foxes and shat on by the local bird population day in day out since forever.

MorondelaFrontera · 08/06/2019 18:53

Oh, sorry Loopytiles, misunderstood.

It depends on the sport I guess!

ILoveMaxiBondi · 08/06/2019 18:56

Affairs. I don’t get them. Either your parents owe you a huge apology for failing to instil any sort of moral compass in you. Or you’re wracking yourself with guilt while you’re doing it, in which case- how the fuck is that fun? Confused

Also, a thing a friend used to do when her DC we’re younger that I never understood. She would insist they had supper (no issue with this- cereal or toast in this house), but cereal wasn’t an option, it had to be something like apple pie, or fruit and yoghurt, or toasted scones etc also fine. It’s her choice what she feeds them. Except it didn’t occur to her to buy this stuff once a week with her shopping. She would always suddenly remember at 9pm that she had nothing in for supper (and sometimes breakfast too) and then take her DCs orders like they were in a restaurant and then either call me or a taxi to come and get her to take her to ASDA to get the supper. I never understood that.

MorondelaFrontera · 08/06/2019 18:57

Open plan kitchen/diner/family room as a preference, especially with young children.

There's a current thread about the danger of burns from hot drinks, but for anything, I don't get how it's not easier to put a gate at your kid children to prevent your kids to go in the kitchen and be safe.

For so many other reasons, I don't get open-plan at all! (noise, smell, mess)

FiddlesticksAkimbo · 08/06/2019 19:00

I don't get why you didn't tell her to piss off!

ILoveMaxiBondi · 08/06/2019 19:04

I would never tell her to piss off. Grin she’s a lovely lady. She just didn’t (shes very different now) realise how annoying she was being. I got very good at being unavailable, not answering my phone etc.

ChristmasFluff · 08/06/2019 19:07

Going into a cafe as a single or couple, and sitting at a table for 4 (when a table for 2 is available), when there might actually be 4 people who could use that table to sit together.

I've instilled this into my son to the extent that when I recently sat at a table for 4 in a completely empty large cafe, he moved me!

BlackPrism · 08/06/2019 19:08

@NewAccount270219 delivery drivers can never find my address and I like supermarket shopping

rodentforce · 08/06/2019 19:09

Oh yes, agree about ironing. I don't even own an iron My 9 year old said to me recently, 'When people talk about "ironing" their clothes, what do they mean?' I felt like the world's biggest slattern 😂

Camping
Buying new cars (esp buying a new modest car when the same money could buy a used much nicer car)
Staying with partners they don't trust (sooooo exhausting)
Spending hours preparing a meal that takes 20 mins to eat (I can see the logic if cooking for a group of people who are coming round for dinner, or cooking a large batch so they won't have to cook again all week ... I guess I just hate cooking)

ChristmasFluff · 08/06/2019 19:09

And yes, people who don't zip-merge. Even when there are signs TELLING THEM TO ZIP-MERGE! What is wrong with you people!

And whilst we are on driving ones - people who leave no stopping distance (tailgaters). WHY? I hasten to add I am not a middle-lane hogger. Middle lane hoggers deserve everything they get - not that they notice it, because they are all complete dullards with no road sense.

ChristmasFluff · 08/06/2019 19:13

oooh, @rodentforce - I'm a new car buyer!

I buy a car new, then keep it until it becomes too expensive to repair. So my last car lasted 18 years. My current one (that I still refer to as 'my new car') is 6 years old and is going strong, with minimal money paid out.

So the way I do it is really cost effective, compared to people who by second-hand (not knowing how well the car has been maintained etc) many time during, say, 18 years.

Tail-gating is never ok.

As for the zipping thing the issue is simply that 50% zip,and 50% get into lane early, which causes conflict. Personally I am in the latter camp and think it is more efficient as once the traffic is one lane, it moves. However, everyone has to choose the same way, so if zipping is in fact proven to be more efficient then signs need to be put up to tell people to do it.

fairweathercyclist · 08/06/2019 19:16

Watching TV with subtitles

We recently watched Man in the High Castle with subtitles on because we found the dialogue very fast and were missing parts of it.

I presume it's allowed if the programme is in a foreign language?

fairweathercyclist · 08/06/2019 19:17

YES! I forgot to say BBQs. So fucking weird. Everything tastes of burnt or fire lighters and you're eating your tea in the garden with the wasps and midgies rather than in the living room with the sofa and the TV

Agreed!

ChristmasFluff · 08/06/2019 19:18

Oh, and people who 'don't get' watching TV with subtitles - I often do this so I don't disturb my neighbours. I'm insomniac - they don't need to be.

Fromage · 08/06/2019 19:20

Upstairs on the bus - yes I get the safety reason and all the other reasonable reasons, but that's not every single person who takes the bus, surely? I can't believe this only happens in my area either.

Ironing clothes: I never notice when someone's clothes are ironed. Had no idea I was so judged. Which, on reflection, makes me want to iron everything immediately and I'd like to apologise for the offence my crumples have caused.*

Having a carefully and artfully arranged pile up of 45 cushions and pillows on your bed, most of which spend the night on the floor as you can't need more than 2 pillows under your head, usually. Do you not spend half your time unpiling, then repiling your comfy-art installation?

People who ride their bikes on the pavements at speed and expect pedestrians to get out of their way.

It might be because I took my driving test in the dark ages, but what is 'zip merging' and where does it occur and are there signs to tell you to do it?

*of course not. I still don't give a fuck.

ChristmasFluff · 08/06/2019 19:21

And finally - not only is it easier to reverse into spaces, it is more ecologically friendly and saves you money:

Greyhound22 · 08/06/2019 19:26

People who put fuel in at the pay at pump and then go into the shop to pay.

Normally when there are 6 non pay at pump free. Bastards.

ChristmasFluff · 08/06/2019 19:28

@Fromage zip-merging is where you drive to where two lanes go down to one, and then merge one car at a time. Actually proven to keep traffic moving faster than everyone moving into a single lane miles back from where the lanes merge.

There are often signs on UK motorways indicating this such as 'Stay in lane' followed by 'merge in turn' accompanied by pictures of how to do this for those who are not aware. Few pay them any attention, and are thus unreasonably affronted by those of us who do.

MorondelaFrontera · 08/06/2019 19:33

I don't get people who get their outside laundry line out for the summer.

Things dry just as well the rest of the year Confused

Fresta · 08/06/2019 19:38

Moron ? eerrrh, no they don't!

MorondelaFrontera · 08/06/2019 19:42

Fresta

where I live, unless you have a very hot day - which is rare - they actually dry faster in the colder months because these months are much more windy.

Unless it rains or it's one of these horrible grey grizzly days, clothes dry all year round.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 08/06/2019 19:42

Things dry just as well the rest of the year

Really depends where you are, both geographically and the layout of your garden.

If you’re in north Scotland and have a very sheltered garden, you won’t be drying laundry out every day in January.

If you’re in the rural south east surrounded by flat fields, you’ll get a breeze Wink

My old house was only good for drying out a few hours on about 20 days a year.
