Using car horn to signal goodbye

A small issue in the grand scheme of things but incredibly disrespectful of the driver to sound their horn upon leaving a neighbours house. A couple of weeks ago this annoyance began. I live close to the end of a dead end road and my house is near the turning area. The car(s) in question turn then beep as they drive off meaning the horn is sounded directly outside my home. Not only does it shock me (it's a new build with excellent windows and doors that are very effective at keeping out noise etc) but it also disturbs my sleeping baby and this makes me so angry.

I'm not sure which neighbour it is but tonight it was 10pm and quite dark due to the weather. Tomorrow I plan to watch to find out who is involved. It's every night ranging between 7-10pm. Other people have young children and I imagine they too won't be happy about it.

AIBU? I was sure horns were only meant to be used to alert others of danger?? I can't remember the last time I used my horn! Should I let it go?? WWYD?

@austenozzy : Cookworthy Knapp is my screen saver ... I wave/raise a hand to the County sign in salutation unless D and C’s finest are parked just up from it with their own welcoming committee wagon Grin

Dippy.... I dont get it either... its her that wants it, as an alternative to waving. I have told her its not ideal - but she really wants it - its not late, its brief, and about twice a week. She can have it - she cant have much of what she wants - i can give her this.

ok stay, but glad she doesn’t live on my street - I would be cursing you every bloody time 😂

So rude and pointless. I hate it when people beep to let people know they're outside.

Darkstar4855 · 08/06/2019 20:52

YANBU. I work nights and get woken by horns being tooted especially in hot weather when it’s impossible to sleep without the windows open. It can also disturb people who are ill, trying to get their babies to sleep etc.

People who do this at ANY time of the day are thoughtless and inconsiderate.

EdWinchester · 08/06/2019 20:54

It's utterly wanky behaviour.

TheRedBarrows · 08/06/2019 20:56

Noise pollution.

And generally noisy, inconsiderate cuntish behaviour.

I didn't know the nearly home trees approaching Cornwall were called cook worthy knapp. I have a lovely piece of stained glass with them on there in our kitchen.

On topic, I hate beepers too.
