On Thursday my eye felt sore and irritated, like something was in it. Woke up yesterday and it’s quite swollen, really red and watery. Pharmacy gave me some eye drops, I religiously put them in every two hours but this morning I have woken up and my eye is even more swollen!! It looks AWFUL. I’ve never had an eye infection before, does it get worse before it gets better?! It’s my daughters christening on Sunday and I’m so worried it’s not going to be better by then.

I cannot believe that people were suggesting an optician or a GP to deal with the OP’s eye problem.Hmm As others have said you do not mess about when it comes to your sight. It certainly sounds like an infection so you are in the right hands at A&E, OP. I’m sure they will sort you out.

GP said he thinks allergy related and I need different drops from pharmacy (sodium cromoglycolate). He said he wouldn’t expect my eyes to be worse today after using the other drops otherwise. If it is allergy related then the drops should work quite quickly. Really hope these work.

Hmm

Our GP surgery has a recorded message when you phone in before selecting your option that literally tells you to see an optician for eye related issues.

So while you 'can't believe it Hmm' it's actually what the NHS protocol advises for my area.
