Sorry, AIBU for traffic
D
A blue tit just flew into my kitchen window and is now on the ground outside (with my 2 dogs itching to get out to it.) It's alive. It righted itself from its back and is standing on its legs now but hasn't moved from the spot. Can I help the poor little thing?? What can I do?

He s probably a bit stunned. Hive him some time, you'll probably find he'll fly off in a bit.

It's actually a coal tit I think.

Leave it alone it's just dazed itll be alright in a minute. You'll probably scare it more going out there.

BarbarAnna · 06/06/2019 10:26

I would leave it for a bit as it is probably stunned / concussed. I have had this happen before and they generally fly off after a bit. But I am not an expert. Hope it is ok.

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 06/06/2019 10:28

He's stunned he will probably be fine.

We had this last year, but I think the poor thing snuffed it.

I put it out in the shade (it was a heatwave) in case I was wrong. It had bugs crawling through its wings. Birds aren't the cute soft, safe things you think they might be.

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 06/06/2019 10:28

(Or perhaps it's just me who thought that)

mineallmine · 06/06/2019 10:29

Thanks. Poor little guy. We've had a couple of fatalities with birds. They don't seem to see the window.

Its stunned, put it in a cardboard box for warmth with a dish of water, in a safe place. They can get concussion like we do.
If you have a local wildlife rescue they might take it, and return it when it has recovered.

WhiteRedRose · 06/06/2019 10:32

You need to hang something in your window, OP.

KMoKMo · 06/06/2019 10:33

You can get window stickers to help them realise the window is there.
Poor little thing

WellThisIsShit · 06/06/2019 10:35

I’d leave it in peace for a while so as not to panic it more with your presence. Hopefully it’s just stunned and will regain its flight soon.

For another time though, can you get a couple of nice stickers/transfers to go on that window? I think there are some nice translucent ones of birds you can get, to make birds steer clear? Or just anything might help to give the birds a clue...

mineallmine · 06/06/2019 10:36

It's gone, it just flew off. I feel so relieved. I'll definitely get those window stickers as this isn't the first time this has happened. Thanks all.

Yay!

Deelish75 · 06/06/2019 13:59

Glad it's alright!

I've rescued two injured pigeons (on separate occasions) and I've taken them both to the local vets. RSPCA recommended this as they are wild animals and the vets can't refuse apparently.

DontCallMeShitley · 06/06/2019 16:04

A wildlife rescue is better than a vet, they are less likely to kill them, especially pigeons.

Or a bird sanctuary/rescue. There is a list of them online.
