Gross poo info enclosed-look away now if you're squeamish.

A few months ago I had a vindaloo at wetherspoons, I have a high tolerance for spice but this was awful harsh spiciness! My eyes were streaming and I felt like my head was spinning...but I still ate it all. At about 1am that night I had to get up as was woken by that awful feeling that I'm either gonna puke or poo myself or both at the same time. Did a hideous poo in the end and felt miles better. HOWEVER since then my stools have been all over the shop, mostly loose every morning, I have done normal ones inbetween so confident there's no obstruction or anything so has this vindaloo permanently messed up my tummy? Or should I see the gp in case that is just a coincidence?

More likely you got some sort of bug / food poisoning from it and it’s screwed up the balance of good / bad bacteria in your gut. Get some Actimel or Yakult drinks and drink 2 a day for a week or so or get some Acidophilus tablets. Hopefully it should calm things down.

Good idea I'll try that! Thank you!

I do remember reading that very bad food poisoning can be starting point for IBS, but it doesn't sound like you had food poisoning? Look for the IBS Dietitian on social media, as she has a list of scientifically proven probiotics that might help.

If youre that bothered speaking to a doc is better than taking medical advice from random anonymous posters on the internet

Some bad stomach bugs can cause temporary lactose intolerance. DS2 used to get this. You could try switching to lactofree products for a couple of weeks. We used to see a difference in a couple of days with DS2.

Have you kept a food and symptom diary? It will help you and the GP identify if there are any specific trigger foods or drinks.

Give this a read OP: sheerluxe.com/2018/11/06/how-fixing-my-gut-fixed-everything

Sounds like you need to sort out your gut health.

I went on a similar process after 3 days of food poisoning left me feeling sick with no appetite for weeks. My gut bacteria was all over the place and this kind of advice really helped.

I ate something dodgy on holiday four years ago that left me with the Shit-Yourself-Slim Diet. After four years of gastric trouble like you're describing, I found out I'm now lactose intolerant. You have my sympathy, and I hope this will help you.

A bad enough stomach bug can damage the tiny finger-like structures (microvilli) in your gut that produce the enzymes to break down lactose. if they're harmed by gut inflammation, they stop working, the lactose isn't broken down, and you end up with diarrhoea.

If you think dairy products could have upset you, try a break from them for a few weeks, and take a good probiotic every day.

Arla Lactofree milk is safe to drink if you don't want to give up tea/coffee the way you like it; chocolate is low in lactose; but steer well clear of ice cream and regular milk while you're trying this out.

I hope you get to the bottom of it, and that good health gets to your bottom. Smile

Thanks all, I have quite a high dairy diet (milky coffees, cheese and too much lurpak!) so I'll try cutting it down for a while, how quickly should I expect to see a difference?

If you actively cut out lactose you should start to see an improvement within a week or two if that is the cause.
