Your wall, your border

"I think that will all work out, it will all work out very well and also for you, with your wall, your border," he said. "I mean we have a border situation in the United States. And you have one over here but I hear it's going to work out very well. I think it's both going to work out well, it's going to work out very well here."

Said by Trump to Leo Varadkar, taoiseach of Ireland today.

Doesn't it feel like we are living in some kind of warped parallel universe when someone with this level of coherence makes it to the position of President of a country?

It seems he really doesn't have a clue and yet he is flying around being heralded as an important person whose opinion has a value to international politics.

AIBU or is he actually talking perfect sense and I'm just not hearing it right?

No. YANBU. He's talking out of his arse as usual.
I'd say Leo went home and had a stiff drink after that particular meeting.

I don’t think he’s talking any sense. He’s completely missing the point that the Irish do not want a wall between themselves and Northern Ireland.

PhossyJaw · 05/06/2019 22:57

Leo looked as if he were trying to conceal his ‘humouring the afflicted’ face. Or resisting the temptation to ask what Trump actually knew about Irish history and politics, and which side of the Irish border was Mexico.

He clearly doesn't have the faintest idea what he's talking about. Just like the NHS comments - first it's on the table, then when that got a bad reaction he said it's off the table. I very much doubt he has the slightest idea what the NHS is. His supporters don't care. They seem to like the idea of a not very intelligent president.

He makes Reagan look intelligent. I still can't understand how he can get away with so much lying, either. He regularly does it one day, then denies it the next, like an abuser. Vile man.

Im in Ireland and trying to avoid any media coverage of his ugly mug but the radio is on at work and all day long I've been hearing people in West Clare saying "oh it's wonderful he's coming to visit. I hope he'll come to my shop/village/door". I wonder how they can hear about anything he has ever said and want to be associated with any of it.

It seems there is such a thing as bad publicity after all. Trump can keep West Clare and the hill billies who think he is fabulous. I would never ever have visited his place in Doonbeg anyway so they won't be weeping over my lost business. I cannot see that jobs created by his hotel are worth swallowing your values but it would seem they are to some. Souls sold to the devil.
