It’s growing next door, quickly and up, doesn’t really hang over my boundary till it gets to the top which is about my height and a half. It’s taking all the light out of the garden and some of my kitchen, I snip the bits that hang over my side, but it more the height.

Next door love it as it give them privacy, the roots are making my patio a bit raised in areas and there seem to be quite a few roots my side. Neighbours not interested

So what would you do? Would ibu to dig up roots and and (maybe put a bit of weed killer down in the middle of the night?)

Or any other suggestions?

Does your house insurance have a form of legal aid? If so use them as the neighbours will be probably found liable for damage to your home

Legal cover not legal aid :(

I had to dig a trench along my side as the neighbours just shrugged their shoulders. Took a whole summer of Saturday mornings and pouring concrete on my property. But it’s now causing them loads of problems and now down the side of their log cabin. They have asked if they can get to it from my side and it was nice to shrug my shoulders at them. Weed killer has slowed the growth for them but it’s got everywhere and just won’t stop.

Marking my place to show you a picture of my concrete path tomorrow. Our neighbiur has bamboo.

Its creeped up under the fence and under out pathway and its shot right up through it, it looks like a mini bomb has gone off on the concrete and then a stick green out if the wreckage. So annoying.

We planted bamboo in our garden years ago and it went mad. Had the nursery we bought it from, not gone out of business I'd be blooming suing them for the poor advice they gave us. 5 years after we first started digging it out it is still growing. Weedkiller does nothing. All you can do it pull up what you can and chop down what you can't .

Legally I think the spread of the root sto yourproprty constitutes a "nuisance" which they are obliged to stop and they would be responsible to bearing the cost of any remedial work (like removing the roots and relaying your patio) so it's certainly in their interests too to deal with this sooner rather than later.

What doesn’t help in our case is the neighbour positions all their plants as close to the boundary as possible to maximise their space so the spread into our garden was immediate. It also blocks their light so their other plants are now leaning over the boundary to get light.

Bamboo is a nightmare. My PIL planted some and are now totally invaded and having to spend a fortune to get rid of it. It should be banned for sale IMO.
Total menace. I would seriously contact your council if your neighbors are not willing to do anything. Weed killer doesn't touch it IME.
