To ask if you drink lots of water a day but still have crap skin

Overmydeadbody456 · 05/06/2019 19:26

I have been drinking about 2.5 litres a water daily for about a year and I feel like my skin is still dull, lacklustre and tired.

Is it a myth?

Yes it is
Try a good night time moisturiser.
Or a nice face mask. They've done my skin wonders

KM99 · 05/06/2019 19:43

It's diet too..if I have a few weeks of less processed carbs and more protein and veg my skin looks much better.

I also realised neglecting my bedtime skincare routine isn't good.

Mamabear12 · 05/06/2019 19:45

Unfortunately drinking lots of water does nothing for my skin. Although, I’m sure being dyhdrated would make it look worse. I have been told by people before that I have nice skin; but I don’t think it’s great. If I have a tan it looks nice though.

FanjoFizz · 05/06/2019 19:52

Wheat/gluten messes my skin up and makes it look dull and uneven.
As soon as I cut it out I notice a difference (but I reallllyyyyy like pasta *sigh)

Shebertherbert · 05/06/2019 19:53

I have good skin. I gave up the all expensive face products. They don't do much. I wash my face with Dove soap. I cleanse my face every night. I use Nivea cream. (nana knows best)
Drink plenty of water. Eat lots of fruit and veg. Get your beauty sleep. Don't smoke.

FakeEmpire · 05/06/2019 19:54

I have wrinkless and "glowy" skin, I've always drank lots of water but I also eat lots of beef and fatty fish, and ignore skin care products apart from a giant tub of Crowes Cremine. I think diet and genes are responsible for the most part of nice looking skin.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 05/06/2019 19:55

I am fortunate enough not to have crap skin but I don't find the amount of water I drink makes any difference to how I feel or look. So I drink when I'm thirsty,

Equally, I gave up drinking alcohol for a month the longest period since I was a teenager and noticed no difference whatsoever. All this stuff about better sleep/skin/whatever...nope.

getback · 05/06/2019 23:15

It's genetics at the end of the day..... wish it weren't

Svolvaer · 05/06/2019 23:42

Ri am told I have lovely skin, I never, ever drink water - I hate it - almost exclusively drink tea and coffee. I do eat quite well and have used a good (not by any means expensive) skin routine since I was about 13. Not sure about genetics ( mum died when I was four) but that seems more likely than drinking gallons of water to me.

motherheroic · 05/06/2019 23:45

Just sounds like you need to exfoliate honestly. Doesn't need to be harsh or fancy. I apply my cleanser, remove with a wet flannel and thats enough for me.

If I go a day without the flannel I can tell immediately.

Boneshere · 06/06/2019 05:52

Keto diet, water, dermaplaning, vitamin C skin products, and avoiding skin products with alcohol in them as it is aging and drying are what finally sorted my skin.

Boneshere · 06/06/2019 05:55

Oh and facial acids!

ComtesseDeSpair · 06/06/2019 05:58

I use the oil cleansing method, an SPF moisturiser and exfoliate a couple of times a week and it’s made far more difference to my skin than all the water, vitamin supplements and expensive creams I used to use ever did. Most of my water intake now comes through tea and coffee, and I drink alcohol far above recommended guidelines and whatever else this might be doing to my body it makes no difference whatsoever to my skin.

LaMarschallin · 06/06/2019 06:14

One of my friends is a dermatologist and he is convinced that using sun screen Every Single Day is the best advice he can give.
I, too, think I have good skin for my age (although, nobody replying on this thread seems to have crap skin, so I may be kidding myself) and have used factor 50 and 5 star UVA since I was in my teens. Sadly I'm sure some damage was done when I was a child before people knew about sun damage. My mama was very jealous of other people's offspring who were less bookish than I: "Ooh! Look at Incog Nita! Brown as a berry she is. Why don't you go and play with her?".
My own two offspring are obviously fed up with me banging on about sun protection but, luckily, do still use it.
The other thing dermatologist friend suggests is not smoking.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 06/06/2019 06:18

Might be time to try some facial acids and retinol OP

Try some of the deciem range . Cheap and worth trying . Go to Cult Beauty and they have various guides

Ihatehashtags · 06/06/2019 07:55

Water does absolutely nothing! Don’t smoke, stay out of the sun, exfoliate weekly, eat a healthy diet and use good skincare. Then you’ll have great skin!

thismumismad · 06/06/2019 08:50

Best thing imho for God's skin is a good handmade soap, se if you can find someone local. I make my own and not needed moisturiser in the ten years since doing so. For the past 2 years I've not used shampoo or conditioner, just soap and my hair is lovely and soft.

BonAccordSpur · 06/06/2019 08:53

Been doing keto for almost18 mths..drink at least3litres of water(includingat gym)but tea&coffee too&skin looks amazing,DC are pretty mad as they have teen spots at mo..

HappydaysArehere · 06/06/2019 08:55

I use acquous cream instead of soap. Have done for years.

BackwardsGoing · 06/06/2019 11:06

Skin influencing factors in order of importance (IMO):

  1. Genetics
  2. Sun damage
  3. Smoking
  4. Sleep

And waaaay down the list is creams, beauty regimes, water, diet etc.

Mia184 · 06/06/2019 11:46

My skin looks best when I regularly go out for a bike ride or run after work (I do use a moisturizer with SPF). Whenever I‘m too busy for that, my skin looks quite dull after a couple of days. My face looks a bit red after a fast run or ride but pumping all that blood into my face whilst facing the elements makes for a nice complexion Smile
Exercising indoors does not have the same effect btw.

Stravapalava · 06/06/2019 12:18

My skin is much more even and glowy from drinking water, but I still get the odd hormonal / genetic spot. It has made a difference to my blotchiness and dull-ness.

PugPupsMum · 06/06/2019 16:19

Yes... there are other things you need to do to have good skin!

Do you use a retinol? Thats what makes the biggest difference to my skin.

reytmardy · 06/06/2019 18:10

Sun cream on face from spring to autumn, take collagen (Bioglan strawberry chewable is great) and take a multivitamin and omega oil supplement

Snowflakes1122 · 06/06/2019 18:12

How much sugar/dairy do you have in your diet?

My skin is pretty good since I gave up both. It’s not been easy though Grin
