Trading in a car with an issue!

My car has cost me over £500 in the last couple of months but it's still not quite right. I've lost all confidence in it but don't want to spend more money on fixing it. Not to mention the inconvenience when its off the road. So decided it's time to trade it in.

Somebody asked do I not feel bad about sell it / trading it in with the issue?

Depends on who you are trading it in to. If you are going to sell to a private buyer and not disclose the issues then yes I would consider you to have bad morals. If you are trading in to a garage - then its their call to look over the motor - in that case I probably wouldn't volunteer any info about the problems you have had. (Not sure I could lie though if asked directly about any problems)

Agree with drowning. My dd bought a car with 6 months mot on it, put it in for mot and was told although it ran ok it was rotten underneath and not worth fixing, the previous mot certificate was clearly bogus. We sold it to we buy any car as we couldn't pass that lemon on to anyone else in good conscience.

What drowning said.

To knowingly sell a car with issues and lie about them would be wrong.

I traded in an immaculate Austin Metro many years ago at only 3 years old. It ran beautifully - provided the fuel intake was wide open so it did 10 miles to the gallon. When "correctly" adjusted it would stall at every junction. It had done this from practically new and n one could ever get to the bottom of it.

I'm about to trade in a 2 year old car. The engine failed at 20K miles and has been replaced under warranty. I will not be keeping it though as problems with this engine seem to be not as rare as they should be. I've only had it 6 months so will lose money on it but it's not worth the risk

Part exchange it.

It's definitely going to a garage not a private sale. I took the view their mechanics can spent time on it before they sell it on.

If you trade it in at a car supermarket they won’t be too fussed about any faults, so long as it has a valid MOT - the one near me asks for 3 months left. All their cars go straight to auction.
