...to be dreading a triple whammy on my fanny?

I've been waiting for a date for treatment on my nether regions. Today the hospital phoned with a cancellation appointment for the beginning of next week. Now I'm bricking it. I've now got a D&C, polypectomy and the marsupialisation of a bartholyns cyst to look forward to. Oh happy day. 😬 If anyone has any words of advice/comfort/humour to give me, I'd be eternally grateful.

I've had both D&C and polypectomy and neither was that big of a deal. The D&C left me with cramps and bleeding, but no worse than having a period. The polypectomy I can't remember much about except that it was a godsend because I'd been having constant bleeding from the polyps which stopped after the procedure.

My biggest concern would be the GA, because it usually takes me longer to recover from it than they say it will (that could just be me though). Even if they say you'll be home the same day, clear your schedule for a day or two to make sure you have enough time to recover. Do you have someone to help you get home and look after you?

ElisavetaofBelsornia · 04/06/2019 19:40

The other thing is, ask for a sedative prior to the GA. I always do as I tend to get nervous on the day itself.

Alsohuman · 04/06/2019 19:42

Make sure you have lots of drugs. Everything looks better from a little pink cloud.

MrsDrudge · 04/06/2019 19:42

I had a polypectomy under GA - bit crampy, but given a small dose of morphine afterwards which was bloody brilliant!!!

AdoraBell · 04/06/2019 19:45

Doesn’t quite compare but I was booked for a mammogram and they called to say can you come in today ?

Yes, says me. Completely forgetting that my period started that morning 🤦‍♀️

Justmuddlingalong · 04/06/2019 19:49

Yes. DP will be on nurse, cook and housekeeping duties. It's just day bed ward so I'll be home the same day, fingers crossed. I'll be taking it easy for sure. Reading, watching box sets and chocolate may be involved in my recuperation.

How can you get the B cysts done? A succession of GPs told me that they would do nothing about them. Should I go private?

Good luck OP Flowers

Justmuddlingalong · 04/06/2019 20:01

I'm getting mine done on the NHS . I was at the appointment to discuss the polypectomy and D&C and mentioned it. He didn't seem keen, so I asked him, if he grew an extra bollock that hurt, squashed a bit when he sat down and got in the way when he was having sex, would he not want something done about it? He shrugged, laughed and agreed to remove it. 👍

Sounds like you had the balls to ask for it done then, op

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 04/06/2019 20:26

Ah, lovely morphine ...

Sorry. Just had a little moment.

Justmuddlingalong · 04/06/2019 20:34

Morphine? Will I get pain relief when I wake up. 1 cocodamol knocks me off kilter, what will morphine be like?

OP posts:
HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 04/06/2019 20:47

Fucking beautiful.

ElisavetaofBelsornia · 04/06/2019 20:49

Yes you'll get pain relief and they should give you something to take home with you. Morphine calms you down as well as being an excellent painkiller, it's the best. I can't promise you will get it though! But you'll get something.

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 04/06/2019 20:56

You should at least get codeine. That is quite nice as well.

Disclaimer: I've had four gynae surgeries in the past year, one of which was major and involved a lengthy recovery. So my drug knowledge has been acquired through totally legit means.

Justmuddlingalong · 04/06/2019 21:05

Thanks for all the advice and laughs. It's definitely calmed me down a bit. It seems like I've waited for ages for appointments, referrals, scans, more referrals and treatment. Only having a week's notice kind of freaked me a bit. But I'm grateful and hopefully I'll feel better once the whammy's over. 😁

I had an endometrial ablation and polypectomy last year. The buttered toast you get when you come round from the GA is the most delicious thing you'll ever eat Grin. Good luck, it's a great feeling once everything's sorted.

longtimelurkerhelen · 04/06/2019 21:32

Pre meds are also nice and will calm you right down. :)

Hope it all goes well, at least with a cancellation you don't have too long to worry about the appointment.

Here's hoping you will be bollockless soon. Grin

Flowers & Cake and of course lots of Chocolate

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 04/06/2019 22:52

All the best op.

HalfBearOtherHalfCat · 05/06/2019 07:34

Can't comment on the bollock, but I had a D&C and polypectomy under GA, and was totally fine afterwards. No pain at all. Didn't even really need ibuprofen, let alone morphine. Which is a good thing, because morphine makes me vomit like something out of the exorcist!

Good luck, and I hope you have an easy time of it.

TheGlitterFairy · 05/06/2019 08:24

Good luck with your procedure. Having had GA on Monday - as others have suggested, clear your schedule for a couple of days following. I thought I’d be ok to work today but so so tired from the anaesthetic that I’m off today also to recouperate. It’s good to get things sorted. Deep breaths and a kindle for the day ward - and phone charger - in case you have a bit of a wait when you get in there. Good luck.

morallybankruptme · 05/06/2019 12:16

This is hilarious . Good luck op!

Owlbert · 05/06/2019 12:54

Good luck! I'm sure you will be fine. I had to have an emergency d&c a couple of years ago with no anaesthetic or pain relief and it wasn't actually that bad! Afterwards was ok too
