To ask how much your DC car costs them a month?

I'm asking because I'll soon be a newly qualified driver and also very young Blush

I'm unsure if I should go with the Motorbility scheme and have a brand new car plus all insurance, etc covered a month, or just get an older car?

The Motorbility scheme will be the full allowance so £200 a monthish.

Could I run a car outright for a lot less?

Or is this such a good deal that I should grab it and run?

I'm assuming that motability covers everything except fuel, so cost of the car, insurance, tax, breakdown cover and as it's a new car no MOT or repairs as under warranty.

If you're young and inexperienced, insurance could easily be at least half the £200 pm, quite possibly more, tax could be anything between nothing and £30 ish per month, you could need to put away around £30-50 pm at least to cover MOT, servicing and repairs of an older car and even that might not be enough if something 'big' goes. Breakdown cover won't be much - autoaid is about a fiver a month, but you've used up just about all of your £200 pm there before you even think about buying a car.

If you went for a very old and cheap car, you might be lucky in that it doesn't need any expensive repairs and if you got the right one, tax and insurance might not be that much, but it would be difficult to run a car for less than £200 pm, especially with the cost of young person insurance, so it sounds like a no brainer unless you don't really need a car and you could use some of your allowance for a few taxis instead, but obviously you're learning to drive, so will probably need to rather than rely on taxis.

One thing to check would be the insurance excess on the motorbility policy. Some corporate policies have high excesses, especially for young drivers, so might be asking if you can pay extra to reduce it, or put money away to cover the excess just in case.

Barbara Thank you so so much for that Thanks

I'll be going with the scheme, I think it's definitely worth it.
