Is it time to call the plumber?

Sink has been completely blocked since Sunday night.

Don't know what's down there but I've been determined to unclog it myself to no avail.
First I tried with soda crystals, vinegar and hot water... Didn't budge.
Yesterday throughout the day it had 4 tries of 2 different types of drain unblocker, a domestos one and an easy brand one which made it so that water goes down after a long while but at least it's not at a stand still so I thought I was getting somewhere.

Today I put the Buster Plughole Unblocker granules in and flushed down with hot water after about an hour. It did nothing.
In between I've been trying to give one of those long drain brushes a go but all it has done is take out the bristles of the actual brush Envy

Have you tried taking off the curving bit, not sure what it's called, something like the S bend, that's under the sink - put a bucket under it first, of course.

Otherwise, yes it does sound like you need a plumber.

Is it easy enough to do?

I'm worried I won't be able to put it back together properly (taking it apart seems like my thing Grin).

Actually I think it's called the U bend isn't it, not the S bend. Knew it was a letter towards the end of the alphabet, couldn't remember which.

I don't think it's difficult, google it. I live on my own and google all sorts of things.

You just have to turn the two bits that hold it in place and it comes off. I'm pretty certain I've done it in the past.

If you've got something like grease or food stuck in the lower bit you might just need to remove it to clear it.

Much cheaper than a plumber.

Don't forget the bucket underneath.

Good luck.

Yup, I came to say take off the U-bend. Dead easy to take on and off, I did it without even googling (pre-internet, in fact), but be prepared for it to be horrific - as PP says, do NOT forget the bucket under it.

DontCallMeShitley · 04/06/2019 16:53

It might be further down in the system though. Is anything else blocked?

sadkoala · 04/06/2019 18:31

Ok so I did it! 😅 Thankyou for the advice probably saved myself some £££.
It's all plastic so watched a quick YouTube video and unscrewed the u bend.
The water was clear but sat at the top was what I could only describe as a regurgitated hairball with food bits 😷 but it fell out on its own so I didn't actually need to touch it!

Screwed back in place and it's all good as new and I can finally do my dishes again!

That's fantastic. Thanks for the update. So glad it worked.

Enjoy your washing up Grin
