To think people should take naming their children seriously?

Do they not imagine their name choice on the top of a CV or whatever when naming their child 'Ballerina' or 'Buttercup' or 'Tulip'. I find it tends to more girl names than boys.

I know someone called Koo but her real name is Colleen Wink

MrsBethel · 05/06/2019 16:05

Of course loads of people are giving their kids stupid names. It's the rise of the idiots.

00100001 · 05/06/2019 16:10

I bet all those people that named their kid Khaleesi because she was a strong woman and 'breaker of chains' etc... are now like... errmm ...awwwkward (・_・”)

@MrsBethel my thoughts exactly. There are lots of lovely unusual names but some are just plain stupid!

I had to ask a child's name once, her mother said it was Wiggle.

TwoTinyCrafters · 05/06/2019 21:58

TED is brilliant.. And that scene is hilarious!

mabelsgarden · 06/06/2019 00:44

@TwoTinyCrafters

I think a good name for a baby would be Skcollob or Reknaw.

Legna indeed! (Angel backwards!) Wink

What a shit name!

OwlBeThere · 06/06/2019 01:24

I know a little Berry. It really suits her. Lots of people called Cherry or Sherry, why is Berry so much weirder?

FangsTasticBeast · 06/06/2019 01:31

Think I’m tired, I read that as Beryl and thought fuck no that can’t be making a come back

At least Nevaeh has a nicer sound to it than Legna

OkPedro · 06/06/2019 02:08

Cherry is ridiculous especially in a Dublin accent 🙈 what is sherry short for? Berry sorry but no..
I think it’s cruel to give your child an unusual name. I don’t mean a flowery name etc but something that will cause ridicule. It’s all well and good when they are a baby but when they’re an adult? No, we have to consider how the child will feel with an unusual name.

corythatwas · 06/06/2019 10:24

Basil seems to me exactly like Oscar: old-fashioned name that would have been completely unremarkable a few generations ago and which may well make a come-back. I hope it won't because I don't think it's pretty, but then I felt the same about Oscar, so who says my feelings will count for anything?

Buster72 · 06/06/2019 10:29

"think a good name for a baby would be Skcollob or Reknaw."

I once met a woman who's son was called Rekwan. I replied " is that wanker backwards"

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-sussex-48528531 just read that and thought of this thread

fairweathercyclist · 06/06/2019 11:18

Chinese parents often give their children an English name whilst they are working here and we’ve had a few in our school

One of my housemates in my final year at uni was from Hong Kong and called Fanny. I did feel a bit sorry for her.

Beanzy78 · 06/06/2019 11:48

I knew someone when I used to go to primary school and she was called Pretty and I'm sure her sister was called Shera. I'm pretty sure the kids used to take the Mick out of themHmm

SVRT19674 · 06/06/2019 11:52

@Itwouldtakemuchmorethanthis On Mars? Good luck to them.

Itwouldtakemuchmorethanthis · 06/06/2019 13:44

@SVRT19674 no idea what you’re on about

Wheresmrlion · 06/06/2019 14:52

I went to a conference presentation by a very intelligent Thai guy named Peerapong Pornwongthong.

Pretty normal in his culture but it’s stayed in my head partly because it rolls off the tongue beautifully and partly because it makes my inner 7 year old giggle Grin
