AIBU about wildlife park

Going to a wildlife park tomorrow. Mentioned to PIL how we can't wait to show our toddler all the animals and how excited she will be. I said offhand we will have to take her out of her car seat and I'll sit in the back with her and point out all the animals to her. MIL was aghast - you cannot take her out of her car seat- what if you crash?! I said (because I thought she was confused) "no I mean inside the park when we go round looking at the animals in our car doing about 2mph" she said yes I know - but what if you crash?!

AIBU?!

So as not to drip feed shes nearly 3 and very calm little girl she wont be bouncing around the car!

Personally I would leave her in her car seat, she can still see out of the windows presumably?

Seeline · 03/06/2019 15:52

You can still sit in the back with her, but I would leave her in the car seat.

WhenZogateSuperworm · 03/06/2019 15:52

At a very slow speed with no other cars likely to run in to you then I would take her out of her seat- as long as she is old enough to not expect this every time you are in the car!

IHaveBrilloHair · 03/06/2019 15:53

I'd take her out of the seat too.

Morgan12 · 03/06/2019 15:54

No YANBU at all. It's so slow! And she won't see the animals as good from her car seat.

ItsGoingTibiaK · 03/06/2019 15:54

We let our kids steer sit in my lap and steer the car round the wildlife park at that age!

DoNotDisturbPlease · 03/06/2019 15:54

She wouldn't be able to see out of the windows properly in her particular seat. She is short as well. I dont see a problem and neither does my husband but now I'm second guessing myself?! Its private land so it's not illegal but i dont want to get judgey looks or told off by fellow parents!

I'd leave her in. You can't control what other cars do and you might get rear ended.

DoNotDisturbPlease · 03/06/2019 15:55

Shea a very good girl - she would know it's just a 1 off and would get back in her seat straight away if I told her to.

I’m quite hot on car seats, but whenever we’ve gone to longleat, I’ve let them out of their seats so they can see better.

However, last time we went I had ds sat on my lap in the front passenger seat and he managed to open the door whilst we were in the monkey enclosure. Got it shut pretty quick but that was unexpected.

BlueMerchant · 03/06/2019 15:57

I'd take her out of her car seat. Ignore them.

Fillypants · 03/06/2019 15:58

God that's ridiculous YANBU!! Let her out of it definitely, jeez!

DoNotDisturbPlease · 03/06/2019 16:01

Ok kind of split opinions but if at least some of you do it then I will stick with my original plan and not tell PIL

We regularly go to the safari park. One DD sits on my knee and the other on DHs. They wouldn't see anything in their seats and you drive so slowly round they'll be fine.

HoneyDragon · 03/06/2019 16:09

Which one are you going to? Some have buses which are brilliant for little ones as they can see loads more. With no seatbelts either Wink

FatChloe · 03/06/2019 16:13

We let our 4 year old out of his car seat at Longleat. He understood it was a one off. It's fine!

Greedycushionhoarder2 · 03/06/2019 16:16

I'm really strict about car seats but I would let her out in this situation.

Missingstreetlife · 03/06/2019 16:17

It's going. That was irresponsible.

LazyLizzy · 03/06/2019 16:18

Take her out of the seat, or no point in going if she won't see anything.

Bit tight saying 'ooh DD look at the giraffe' and she can't.

Pinkvoid · 03/06/2019 16:19

Pointless going if she can’t see anything. MIL is being precious.

ScottishMummy12 · 03/06/2019 16:20

I would let her out the seat as well and sit in the front. That's what I have always done with my dd.

Frogarmy · 03/06/2019 16:20

My 8yo DD is big enough to see now, but she always sat on my lap when she was little!

Lonecatwithkitten · 03/06/2019 16:24

I took my DD out of her car seat at a similar age at Longleat. Sadly despite loving animals all she wanted to do was shove a wet wipe in the air conditioning vents the whole way round.

lucymegan · 03/06/2019 16:30

Mine have always sat in the front with us. If it's busy you'll be stationary most of the time. Dh took ours a couple of weeks ago when it was a bank holiday. They didn't see an animal for the first 40 minutes after paying to get in 😕
