Bumped into someone I haven't seen for a while:
Her: oooh when are you due?
Me: I'm not I'm just a bit fat
Her: oh you definitely look pregnant sorry - oo I bet I'll wonder why I said that when I get home sorry ... you do though

I have been trying really hard to lose the baby weight from my last (very large) ds and thought I was finally making some headway- she's really hurt my feelings

So aibu to ask why people feel the need to comment on my size?

She was a bitch to carry on saying that you do look like you are. I wouldn't dwell on it.

EAIOU · 03/06/2019 12:06

Because she's an arse.

OP, I hope you let it go over your head.

HomeMadeMadness · 03/06/2019 12:06

She was a real bitch. She could have apologised or said "oh that's funny I thought someone mentioned you were having another one, must be someone else" and changed the subject.

TrendyNorthLondonTeen · 03/06/2019 12:12

It won't be long before someone arrives to quiz you about your height, weight, BMI, "are you fat though???" etc etc...

TheAverageJuror · 03/06/2019 12:15

Maybe she wasn't being a bitch, but went into an utter panic about what she said and mouth wouldn't stop since she was nervous.
Dependson a tone.

I'm sorry to say I burst into tears when I got home (I'm very tired) but I can fix my weight - I'll get over it I'm sure.
I just don't understand why they try to make it my fault that they've made a mistake by body shaming me - it happened years ago after my first dc too and she (different lady) said 'well you shouldn't wear that top it makes you look pregnant '
I know I have a rounded belly - I always have and so do other family members, but whether I'm pregnant or fat shouldn't be the sort of things acquaintances talk about surely, neither thing affects them after all

Oh OP that woman is either a massive social heffalump or a real nasty cow. I once accidentally implied I thought someone was pregnant when she wasn't. It was at a hen night, I was pregnant at the time and knew there was another pregnant lady coming. The lady I thought was pregnant wasn't even especially fat just had a certain shape (I would never had assumed had I not been looking out for another pregnant lady). I just said "oh sorry X told me the other pregnant lady was over here I assumed you just weren't showing yet". I would never have continued with it.

CripsSandwiches · 03/06/2019 12:33

I also think she was embarrassed by her stupid mistake and tried to turn into your fault.

BlankTimes · 03/06/2019 13:26

Keep something in mind like 'At least I can change the way my body looks, you're stuck with that big stupid mouth'

Even if you don't say it out loud Smile

Lockheart · 03/06/2019 13:30

She wasnt commenting on your size, she made a mistake and then panicked (as you would when you realise you've made a mistake).

I'd cut her (and yourself) some slack.

anothernamereally · 03/06/2019 13:45

Yeah I think she just hit a nerve - my tummy is the first place I pile on the weight and the last place I lose it and I really have been trying, I'm not huge (a comfortable size 16 tight size 14) but I could certainly lose a stone or so, my hips and ribs are both wider since ds too.
I'd rather look like I do and have ds than be thinner without him though so I'll get over myself and get back on it!
Thanks for letting me moan!
