To have only just realised how to drain a washing machine?

I know about the little tube but I've only just realised the end comes off and the water drains from there Shock For 20+ years I've been putting the worlds thinnest baking tray under the front of the machine and laying down towels etc to catch the inevitable flood coming from the twisty handle thing Blush

Please tell me I'm not the only idiot out there Blush

What’s the trick with cleaning using bicarb and vinegar? I feel I should do it but don’t know wtf I’m doing.

Genuinely hate household maintanence

Yes Dreamy. A shallow tray.

I had to empty the filter on mine last night. I couldn't see a tube and ended up flooding the floor Sad

IndieTara · 02/06/2019 20:42

Ooh @ivegotthisyeah same as me. Nasty eggy smell but nothing clogging it

TripleSeptic · 02/06/2019 20:46

To blow your mind further, pull out the hose, take the cap off it, and put it in an empty 2 litre bottle.

Then, run a spin cycle (empty drum). The ecxess water will pump into the bottle. Have another bottle spare for when it gets too full. Repeat spin cycle as many times as necessary.

Then screw off the screwy thing and empty and clean the filter.

No more eggy and dirty feeling washing, you'll be able to smell your fabric conditioner again.

I'm 39 and learnt this at 35...

I only discovered this last year when my machine stopped draining itself, had to sit there for an hour holding that damn tiny tube into a bowl! And I do a wash every day ShockGot so sick of it that I got a new one on finance.

Get some of those absorbent plumbers cloths that you use when you defrost the freezer and have those on the floor when you do the filter. it's amazing how much they soak up.

I live in a very hard water area and use a calgon tablet every wash, despite having a water softener. Roll on moving back to UK and soft water Cornwall..
