To "ban" phones at the dinner table...

This is sort of a lighthearted thread, because I'm fully aware I don't have the right to control or ban anything. Grin

But, I'm sick of everyone staring into their fucking phones like zombies every 5 minutes.

My parents and in laws are by far the worst culprits and it drives me mad!!

My 2 year old has tried to talk to his grandad so many times and grandad is totally oblivious, in a trance like state on his phone.

Is it just me?!

bluegrufallonose, with you all the way!

EdWinchester · 02/06/2019 18:49

Absolutely. Have never actually had to ‘ban’ phones, but it would be a cold day in hell before anyone got one out at the dinner table here.

I think you can ban as he is ignoring a 2 year old!!

azaleanth90 · 05/03/2020 17:26

Good grief, total ban, for adults as well as kids. It's the one phone rule we have managed to (mostly) enforce.

Topseyt · 05/03/2020 17:30

I've never made it an official rule to ban phones at the table, but I've never had to. When we are all sitting around the table for dinner we are chatting to each other and being sociable as a family. It would be the same if we have any guests. Phones are not generally in evidence around the table unless we are having a debate about something and want to google the proper answer to a question.

I only actually use my phone at the table if I am eating on my own. Not when people are with me as I would be ignoring them and I think that is rude.

Itscoldouthere · 05/03/2020 17:34

No phones at the table been a family rule for years.
However once we’ve eaten if a discussion at the table needs to be backed up by say a photo or google search we are then allowed to use a phone, but it rarely happens.
DH is the worst as he’s always getting work emails.
