To be upset that I look wobbly at a normal weight

Summerflab · 02/06/2019 16:35

Just that really. It just seems ridiculous that I can be a reasonably normal size (dress size 10) and still have so many rolls and visible areas of fat and a lumpy shape.

Does anyone else have the same? I just feel sad when I see other larger women without all the extra flab and looking fabulous and then I’m quite small and all flabby :-(.

If it is important I’m 5ft5 and between 9-9 1/2 stone

OP this is me!!! I weigh 8 stone and I am 5ft 2in just! And I am flabby and my bottom half is so big compared to my waist, I have got a small waist but that just makes my hips look bigger. I have saddle bags which are disgusting and I don't understand how people weigh more but dont have fat sticky out bits like me, so it must be down to toning up its just such a long term commitment and i dont think i can be bothered.

Seniorschoolmum · 03/06/2019 10:09

I had the same problem after ds was born. I run now and do sit ups in the evening, in front of the tv

Has helped quite a lot

Happyspud · 03/06/2019 10:12

Being slim doesn’t mean you are strong. You actually have to use your muscles in order to have some.

Newbie1981 · 03/06/2019 10:13

I feel like I'm the opposite. Not that I look super toned, def not. But I work out 3 times a week with weights and am fairly firm (except my bum haha) but I weigh 10stone and 5 ft 3 and cannot shift the weight no matter what. Im verging on overweight and it really depresses me. Sorry I made that all about myself haha. Basically I'm jealous of your weight OP so I bet you don't look as wobbly as you think.

Skyejuly · 03/06/2019 10:16

My stomach and bum are awful!

I want to start weights but dont know how

Oysterbabe · 03/06/2019 10:21

I'm the same but I've decided not to care.

MrsPMT · 03/06/2019 10:26

I disagree that you absolutely need to do weights to be toned. I used to do Zumba and lots of walking and was definitely toned. I'm slim looking at 5ft 6 and 10 stone (currently closer to 11 [sad face]).

Walking (several miles, fast, for fitness) gets the legs toned but not the rest.

alittleprivacy · 03/06/2019 10:31

Back at the start of the year I was like you. I was a healthy weight but had flabbly/wobbly arms and thighs and a sunken, wobbly butt. The reality is that I was still carrying too much fat and was only in the normal weight range because I didn't have enough muscle. Now I'm a tiny, tiny bit lighter but have a much better shape. My legs are well defined, my arms are very well defined and my butt is back where it was about 17 years ago. And though you can't see it as I have loose skin from pregnancy, my core is excellent.

Exercise is absolutely key to being toned. I, like I think most people, find exercise insanely boring and won't keep it up. I have however discovered that I love to skate, it's possibly the most fun thing you can do with your clothes on and I pretty much need to do it every day because of how happy it makes me. Coincidentally it also happens to be one of the best exercises in the world as it provides intensive cardio and all round muscle building at the same time while being so easy on your joints that you can build amazing endurance levels without really noticing. So I'm just out there having crazy fun and getting the most amazing looking, fastest, strongest body I have ever had in my life.

SgtFredColon · 03/06/2019 13:35

Skating! That sounds brilliant!

Walnutwhipster · 03/06/2019 13:43

I'm 55kg and a size 8. I cant exercise so just have to put up with the wobbly bits. I'm resigned to never being toned.

alittleprivacy · 03/06/2019 15:46

Skating! That sounds brilliant!

It really is. I know I sound like a crazed MLM seller when I go on about it but it's honestly even more brilliant than I can describe. It's just so, so much fun. It's like flying. But it's also objectively one of the best exercises in the world as it's intensive cardio, muscle building and endurance work all at the same time. I just did a couple of hours outdoors and my fitness tracker has me down as using just over 1400 calories. And I can feel the impact it's had on my arms, core and glutes. But I don't hurt and I'm not tired, I just feel very slightly stoned from the endorphins. I won't hurt tomorrow. In fact I have a couple of skates planned for morning and evening.

And the best part is that do it with DS as family time, with friends and their DC as a 'playdate', with just my adult friends as a nice chilled chat and skate or by myself to music. I love being outdoors but when it rains there is a rink and an indoor skatepark near by and the fun and fitness benefits are the same. It's honestly the best hobby because it suits so many aspects of my life and as a bonus, I get all the health and fitness benefits. I'd never, ever exercise for the sake of my health, I'm just too lazy, but with skating it's just fun.

humblebumblebees · 03/06/2019 15:51

5'2 and a half, 9 stone 3 and flabby with large breasts. Because of being big up top even when I was 8 stone 4 I never looked lean. I would like to be more toned so it sounds like I need to lift weights.

SgtFredColon · 03/06/2019 17:24

Would never have occurred to me privacy. I would have done it as a kid so maybe wouldn’t take me too long to relearn! I am crap at normal exercise too, so boring. Maybe I’ll give it a whirl Smile

TheDarkPassenger · 03/06/2019 18:36

I’m 5’3 8 stone and still have wobbly bits. It does my head in!!

KinkyFink · 03/06/2019 18:41

It is possible to change your body composition if you eat just enough calories to maintain your weight (no need to cut) and do some weight training. Losing fat is one thing but you also need to build muscle and this requires calories. When you first start there's a window of time where you can both lose fat and gain muscle at the same time, but undereating will not allow you to achieve that, it may feel logical but it's actually counterproductive. I've been training for 1.3 years and am the same weight but I have significantly changed my body composition so I'm far less wobbly and can see a lot of definition. I'm 39, 5ft 5 and weigh 9st.

KinkyFink · 03/06/2019 18:45

@Skyejuly your local gym should be able to help - have a session with a qualified trainer and ask them to show you the main compound lifts (squats, deadlifts, bench press) to get maximum benefit.

KinkyFink · 03/06/2019 18:48

Btw - 'toning' isn't really a thing, all you're doing is revealing muscle, so if there's no muscle to reveal it defeats the object.

You could lose a lot of fat by cutting calories but you'd still not be healthy and having more muscle requires more food to sustain since muscle is heavier than fat.

The reason you need weight bearing exercise (body weight will do) is that you have to force your muscles to adapt by making small tears in the fibres when you put them under force, which then generate muscle growth. You also need to progressively overload, so increasing the weight/reps as you get stronger is absolutely essential to get results.

TheOrigFV45 · 03/06/2019 19:36

Skating! Brilliant. I don't have a rink nearby and can also only skate (quite fast to be fair) in one direction. I fear the end result of months of skating round and round one way might not be what I'd be after!

Spudulike3 · 03/06/2019 21:13

Yes me too and im exactly same height and weight as you.

starzig · 04/06/2019 18:32

5ft and 8.10 catonaswing
