To think it's not normal to be this tired?

IMessedUpToday · 02/06/2019 15:59

Disclaimer: I'm 48, overweight, work a physical job, on fluoxetine, peri menopausal, have anxiety and not sleeping well. Even so, I shouldn't feel so exhausted every day?

what is 'this tired' and 'so exhauted'?

springtime12 · 02/06/2019 16:13

I'm constantly tired, feel exhausted, like you. I've just turned 40, physical job, generally sleep well but not always. My blood tests and every other test comes back as normal.

Something's not right but I don't know what, so known exactly how you feel. I now take a daily vitamin and mineral tablet to see if that helps- it doesn't so far.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 02/06/2019 16:17

Of course you should. With all youve written. Physical job. Medication for depression which speaking from experience can make you very sleepy.
I was like a zombie on fluoxetine.
I'm on Sertraline now and still get very tired now and again, but I can still function most days.
Have you spoke to your GP.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 02/06/2019 16:19

If you've had all your bloods done and it's all fine.
Are not any medication that can make you tired
It could well be CFS or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Spring.

ssd · 02/06/2019 16:20

Speak to your Dr op, I don't know about the medication but perimeno can knacker you, hormones etc etc, plus am guessing you work, have a family and generally do too much? Bit like myself.

swingofthings · 02/06/2019 16:22

If you don't sleep well, you will get more and more tired. Poor sleep is hell.

ssd · 02/06/2019 16:26

That's true, I have a habit of waking up early to pee and often that's me up, it's a pita

RandomMess · 02/06/2019 17:36

Get your Vit D levels checked, I've never known exhaustion like it!

PookieDo · 02/06/2019 17:37

Same I am vit D deficient and now taking the high dose it’s made a huge difference

Moominfan · 02/06/2019 17:40

Op I was sooo tired my bones ached. Went docs, blood test, vit d deficiency. I work outside and eat a fuckton or fish but it's really common in ethnic minorities. If I skip taking them a few days I feel the difference.

Rowgtfc72 · 02/06/2019 17:54

I had this. Turned out it was low vit b12.

RedSheep73 · 02/06/2019 18:01

I've been abnormally tired for ages, after many blood tests found low vit d, but also thyroid issues. Those are complicated though and you can get the symptoms long before it shows in the bloods. Been told I can't go to Chronic Fatigue clinic as I haven't had to give up work, so I can't be that tired. But it is horrible being tired all the time, and not conducive to losing weight!
Keep going back to the doctors, it won't get better on its own.

IMessedUpToday · 02/06/2019 19:05

Thanks everyone. I haven't spoken to the doc (except about my anxiety etc, hence the meds). The lack of sleep and tiredness is getting worse. I can function through a shift (just about .. last hour can be tough) but when I get home I have nothing left. Sometimes I just sit there and stare into space because I have no energy to do anything else. Will speak to doc. Am taking Menopace supplement - I had hoped they would help. Tried Floradix but no appreciable difference.

Go and get your bloods checked. I had anemia and low vitamin D last year and felt like death!

Gribbie · 02/06/2019 19:13

I’m similar age etc. Started taking massive (4000 IU initially, now on about half that) doses of vit d earlier this year and was amazed how much better I feel.

chocolateworshipper · 02/06/2019 21:16

Ask GP to check thyroid function, iron levels, vitamin & mineral levels, plus discuss whether this could be side effects of your medication.

DeeCeeCherry · 03/06/2019 00:47

I'm menopausal and have felt knackered for years, even before menopause. It's easing now as I've started low-carbing, mainly due to being embarrassed about my huge stomach, and having a bad knee which I felt being overweight didn't help. I've been meaning to get around to low-carbon for years but I'm a real foodie and also can be lazy.

Not lost much weight yet but I have my energy back, I didn't realise that was a side effect of low-carbing. My insomnia which i have suffered with since I was 14 also isn't that bad at all now.

If you're overweight and doing a job which sounds as though it may be too physical for you at this stage then of course you'll be tired, especially as you don't sleep well.

You could get some blood tests done, see if anything comes up. I think there are other things you will need to address however. 10 years ago I could very well manage my physical job. I couldn't now so gave it up and manage well in a less physical job

IMessedUpToday · 03/06/2019 05:33

Yes, obviously being overweight isn't helping. Also isn't helping that some of the younger staff at work aren't pulling their weight and I am often left on my own to do the physical stuff - but that's not something I am in a position to address at the moment. Finding another job is not an option at present, so I will have to dig deep and keep going.

Do you exercise?

Exercise will help with weight, sleep and anxiety. Being fit is a great life enhancer.

IMessedUpToday · 03/06/2019 05:52

I used to, but not at the moment, no.

OP posts:
Zoflorabore · 03/06/2019 05:55

Do you have any issues with pain op?
It sounds like me and I have fibromyalgia.

Also, I was on Fluoxetine and didn't realise how bad they made me feel until I changed to Venlafaxine after I was diagnosed with OCD. Some AD's floor you.
How long have you been taking them for?

IMessedUpToday · 03/06/2019 06:05

I have very sore joints, but that's all. I have only been taking the fluoxetine for 2 weeks so it's still early days with that, but I took them many years ago with no ill effects. We have a lot of pretty serious stressful things on the horizon as a family. I expect that isn't helping either .

AJPTaylor · 03/06/2019 06:26

I had chronic tiredness for years. Literally 3 hours sleep each night. The things that helped were bizarrely simple. I got an egg box memory foam mattress topper. This took pressure off my joints. I gave up caffeine completely. I take slow release ibrupfen before bed. I now get six or so decent hours now. Huge difference.

Octonaught · 03/06/2019 06:36

I’m the same age as you OP, am on Citalopram and blood pressure medication. I had a hysterectomy a couple of years ago; but have my ovaries so I think I’m perimenopausal more due to my age....

Had my bloods done at the GP, I was very severely vitamin D deficient.
I am in the middle of a 3 month treatment, it has helped.

I haven’t been to the gymn for a year and I really notice it. Have put on 2 stone. I’m going to start back gently by riding my bike and doing some easy yoga videos on YouTube; just to get myself moving.

Unfortunately at this age, it takes more effort just to be “normal” instead of taking your health and well-being for granted...

speakout · 03/06/2019 06:42

OP you are young. Only half way thriugh your life. There is lots of time to take control over your health and well being Don't accept that this is due to age.
