4 year old crying about his throat? (Health related)

Sorry posting for traffic.

Over the past week everyone in the family has been unwell somehow. Youngest DS with an ear infection. Me with a bad cold, DP with cold etc.

Today DS1 who is 4 was sat on the sofa watching a movie and every few mins he'd make a little moan/whimper I went to check and he's eyes were all teary and he is saying his whole throat hurts whilst grabbing the circumference of his neck.
Nothing else seems to be wrong, he has eaten well, no temp, I looked in his mouth and seems to be no irritation (I was worried about strep throat).
He just wants me to lay with him and watch TV and seems sad. He's not usually that much of a crier so I'm trying to figure out what's causing this/what he could be coming down with.

I've gone into overdrive in my mind and had a little feel of his neck and there seems to be a little round lump that moves around when I wiggle my finger on it and I don't think I've ever felt it before and I can't figure out what it is. It's on his side near collar.

At the moment he's had Calpol and seems a bit better but I'm a bit worried. Sad

Any insight?

The little lump may well be a lymph node. Enlarged nodes are very common in children as their immune systems are immature.

Most people tend to think of lymph nodes as just being under the jaw, but there are nodes in front of, behind, and below the ears, at the back of the head, under the chin, down the neck, at the inner collar bone, and at the outer collar bone.

If he's not well and the lump is moving freely under the skin, it's probably due to the illness. If it's not going down after he recovers, or you're very concerned, I'd recommend seeing your provider.

OP, I'm sure you already know this but just in case, you can use children's neurofen as well as calpol (alternate doses and check package for instructions too). Worth checking his temperature if possible, and if high (39+) then doctor tomorrow. Other than that, rest, plenty of fluids (ice pop might just hit the spot today!) Hope he feels much better soon Smile

My children always have lymph nodes up when they even have a sniffle, it definitely sounds like a lymph node. please don't worry, also if it's
