Wibu to request this?

So dd who is 5 wanted to take part in an extra curricular one off activity which happens annually.
So both this year and last year dd was unsuccessful.
Wibu to request that next year priority should be given to those who were unsuccessfully in previous years or aim I being precious?

Sorry should have explained that there is was a number limit and we were told that names woukd be drawn from a hat if too many applied.

Difficult to answer unless we know what it is.

janetforpresident · 01/06/2019 22:41

I think you could request this. You have no way of knowing how many others may be in a similar position but no harm in asking.

TidyDancer · 01/06/2019 22:41

Yes you probably do need to give a bit more detail but in principle I tend to agree.

freshstartnewme · 01/06/2019 22:41

And the award for the vaguest post...

IvanaPee · 01/06/2019 22:43

What? Confused

Do you mean places are limited? You can’t ask them to change their entire way of doing things because your dd wants special treatment!

Don’t be that mother...

Littlefish · 01/06/2019 22:43

If names are drawn out of a hat, then you would be precious to ask for priority.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 01/06/2019 22:44

Depends what it is, how many places are available, how many people apply, the likelihood of people doing two years in a row while others miss out.....

Em308 · 01/06/2019 22:52

I think it would be fair to insist any previous participants are not entered into the draw, and maybe depending on the number of places available any kids that have been previously unsuccessful are top of the list.

BackforGood · 01/06/2019 22:55

We'd need more info.

Northernsoulgirl45 · 01/06/2019 22:57

Tbh it is hard to tell how many kids have been unsuccessful each year and how many have taken part in subsequent years.
In terms of numbers who can take part I would imagine that the max would be approx 50.
In terms of applicants again as I wasn't party to the ballot I don't know how many applied from the school roll of approx 220.
Thank you for your thoughts

It is a Carnival.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 01/06/2019 23:13

sorry yabu I think, if it's picked at random, it's picked at random.

IvanaPee · 01/06/2019 23:15

To be in a carnival?

I still don’t get it. But the point is that it’s done the fairest way and that’s that.

Mummyoflittledragon · 01/06/2019 23:17

I think that would be a reasonable request personally. There will always be a few, who are always picked and some, never otherwise. If the rule were only once or once picked you couldn’t apply for the following year it would be fairer.

LilQueenie · 01/06/2019 23:20

is it the annual gala parade?

MyOtherProfile · 01/06/2019 23:21

Reasonable to suggest that names of children who did it this year don't go in the jar next year, I reckon

1moremum · 01/06/2019 23:36

I think it is very reasonable to ask if previous participants can put their name in again. If it is only offered once and lots of children don't get their name draw, the nobody should be getting a second shot. If they are taking all comers into the draw, they need to change that policy.

Northernsoulgirl45 · 01/06/2019 23:37

So mixed responses. Will see what happens next year. Thank you

I think it is fair for previous participants to go in the hat but I just feel that those who were unsuccessful should get priority.

BlackeyedGruesome · 02/06/2019 00:02

Our school do draw from hat system but give priority to those who have not had a chance before.

IvanaPee · 02/06/2019 00:03

How can you give priority in a hat full of names, though?

This might be a slight cultural thing though as I’ve no clue what you’re talking about! Is it a school event?

Numbersaremything · 02/06/2019 00:07

Well the obvious thing for the school to do is to give priority to the older age groups, then open up spaces lower down the school, with those who have already participated only getting the chance again after all first timers.

BackforGood · 02/06/2019 00:14

Maybe if there are so many more children than places every year, it would make sense to pick the oldest dc first, (from a hat system if need be) and then only draw from younger year groups if there is space after that ?
Then you only get to be disappointed one year, not 3 ?

Northernsoulgirl45 · 02/06/2019 00:15

It is a school orgamised walkjng float in a carnival.
I suppose what I woyld hope for future years would be that children who have never taken part before get an automatically space subject to the limit. If yoo many those childrens names go in a hat .
Once those children have been accommodated than those who have previously taken part go in the ballot/hat.
I appreciate it is more complicated bug it just seems fairer.
