To ask how you deal with spiders in the home?

Last night I was hanging laundry in our bedroom and after lifting DPs trousers to hang a huge fat swollen spider fell out of his trouser leg. It was dead, obviously had burrowed itself into dps trouser leg —no matter how many times I tell him not to leave his clothes on the bathroom floor—. I can’t get it’s huge swollen body out of my mind, it was such a strange colour Sad

SO please tell me how you usually deal with spiders in the home? I usually trap them into a glass and wait for DP to get home. I feel absolutely awful about said spider, do you think it suffered?

Fully prepared to be told iabu and that I need to get a life. Grin

We say "hello Mr skinny legs" (spiders are always called Mr skinny legs in this house) and then go about our day.

They are completely harmless, why would you need to kill or remove them?

MrsElizabethShelby · 01/06/2019 12:24

I just had to look up cellar spider. It's a daddy long legs! 😁

SomeonesRealName · 01/06/2019 12:24

We happily leave them to get on with it - very happy to have them keep at bay the flies moths and other pests.

bluebellation · 01/06/2019 12:26

I pick them up and put them outside.

Yugi · 01/06/2019 12:26

My cat deals with all spiders, generally with disgusting crunching noises and lip licking.

Ronsters · 01/06/2019 12:28

I ignore most of them, even the huge whoppers, as long as they stay out of my way. There's a big one lives near the skirting board in the kitchen, it doesn't bother me so I just leave it. They keep flies and other pests down.

If there's one running around or in the bath I put a pint glass over it, card underneath and put them outside.

floraloctopus · 01/06/2019 12:28

Nothing, they are welcome even though I'm scared of them.

thaegumathteth · 01/06/2019 12:31

I use a glass and a bit of card and put them in the garden.

ellabella84 · 01/06/2019 12:33

I certainly don’t kill them, I don’t like them but I don’t feel I have anymore right to be here than them. If they’re in the bedroom or particularly big my husband will remove them with a glass other than that just leave them to it.

FEF1102 · 01/06/2019 12:34

I go across to the neighbours house and knock on. He kindly obliges and takes them out of the house for me. I don't care how much of a dick I look!

squashyhat · 01/06/2019 12:35

Glass, card and relocation outside if they are the big brown ones, leave alone if they are the spindly leg ones, toilet paper 'ladder' for any found in the bath.

WatchingTheWheels85 · 01/06/2019 12:35

I leave them alone to do their thing. Sometimes I pick them up and pop them outside if the cats won't leave them be. Growing up I was told if you kill a spider you will come back as one Grin

wineandcatsandlego · 01/06/2019 12:39

I have conkers in the corners of most rooms in the house, which touch wood seem to do the trick at keeping them at bay as can't remember the last time i saw one! Failing that, I have been know to pick up a cat and throw it in the general direction of a spider should one get past my old wives tale conker defence system Grin

redwoodmazza · 01/06/2019 12:40

Dyson cordless - every time!

Why put them outside when they came in from there in the first place?

DontCallMeShitley · 01/06/2019 12:42

It depends where they are really. If they are in the bath I put the plug in to stop them getting washed away and catch them carefully. Then put them outside or in the garage.

Within reach, catch and as above. Too high or scarpered out of sight I leave them where they are but keep an eye on them in case they end up in my bed. I often have one on my bedroom ceiling so just check where it is every night.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 01/06/2019 12:46

Got a spider catcher. I yell for someone to get it so I can keep eyes on them at all times. If I’m alone, it’s a gamble while I get the catcher.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 01/06/2019 12:47

I only evict the ones bigger than my hand Grin

Peachesandcream14 · 01/06/2019 12:49

I leave spiders alone, we had a massive problem with moths and the spiders helped no end! They are very welcome in my home.

Nanny0gg · 01/06/2019 12:49

I hate them with a passion but I always try and catch them to put them outside.

They are a very valuable part of our ecosystem and shouldn't be killed.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 01/06/2019 12:51

We have one living in the roof lantern in our kitchen. I avoid removing the cobwebs in that corner and occasionally stop and admire it. It’s doing me a favour eating things I don’t want in the house.

anothernotherone · 01/06/2019 12:52

I just catch them an put them outside.

I know there are people who have phobias, but there are also people who love a bit of drama, and most people could deal with them without all the fuss if they didn't enjoy the opportunity to pretend to be all hopeless and fluttering about a harmless (assuming you're in the UK) insect.

TheAngryLlama · 01/06/2019 12:53

Fire bomb the house. Then emigrate

goldierocks · 01/06/2019 12:55

I have an old, victorian house. There used to be many spiders, until my son asked for a pet tarantula for his 9th birthday. After much researching & advice from pets corner at our local zoo, we got our first. We now have 5 tarantulas.

Since we got our first, there have never been as few spiders in the house. From 3-4 a week, there are now 2-3 a year, if that.

Getting a pet tarantula to rid your house of other spiders is a tad drastic, but it works! Tarantulas are fascinating petsSmile

ZippyBungleandGeorge · 01/06/2019 12:55

Catch them in a glass and put them outside. I used to be a lot worse with spiders but I've had to deal with a few when it's just me and DS in the house. I realised that actually it's fine. DF catches then in his hands and takes them outside, I'm not that brave

Hoppinggreen · 01/06/2019 12:56

I usually say hello and then just get on with things
