To worry that baby is rolling back to front

Posting here for traffic!

So, my DD is 11 weeks old and rolled from her back to her front today. Well, I assume she did as I put her on her back on her playmat, turned around to prepare a feed, and when I turned back she was on her front 😂

I’ve read that babies are ‘supposed’ to roll front to back first, but she hasn’t done this yet. I’m terrified that she’ll roll onto her front in the night and not be able to roll back! She wears a sleeping bag at night. She doesn’t really like tummy time and gets frustrated and antsy after a couple of minutes. She does have good head control though.

I’m a first time mum so everything is a worry!

Pics of the lil wriggler because she’s cute ❤️

She’s gorgeous and clearly didn’t get the memo about rolling! They’re all different. Mother Nature is a clever old lady, if she can hold her head up, she’ll be fine.

I know you’ll be horrified but when I had mine we were told to put them on their tummies to sleep.

I had the same concern and would stay awake all night just watching my son because I was terrified. I talked to my HV who said not to worry. They were meant to do this, it’s a milestone. If you wake then just pop her back on her back.

By the time I came home from hospital, I knew dd slept better on her front so that’s how I left her. I did put her feet at the foot of the bassinet, though. In her sleep, she crawled to the top. Like you, I was awfully nervous but ended up putting her to sleep on her front and head to head. Everything else was strictly to the guide lines and she survived well enough. Sometimes, you just have to be baby led.

She might well. If so, she'll do what she does when you put her on her tummy - yell for you! It might be exhausting if she goes through a stage of doing this a lot in the night but it will pass, and she'll be fine. You shouldn't put her to sleep on her tummy but if she does decide for herself that that's what she wants to do then that's ok too - but I suspect that if she rolls over in the night you'll hear about it!

Thanks all! She did protest when she was on her front this morning!

She is gorgeous! Aww she's forging her own path!

Mine have both done it the "wrong"way round too - the littlest is 1 next week, and the oldest is nearly 4, so it doesn't seem to have done them any harm. In my experience, babies get really pissed off when they try to roll and can't - I remember being woken up a lot for a while, til each of them sorted out rolling both ways. (It didn't take that long, maybe a few weeks? It felt very long...)

My DD at 5 months can only roll back to front. She hates being on her front so even though she's flipping herself over all the time she lets me know very quickly! I wouldn't worry about it at all.

And congrats! Your DD is very cute x

She’s doing what she is supposed to be doing! Learning! Clever little Cutie❤️
