Should I actually call 111 about my bloody finger (oh and find that cat and have it shot)?

A cat scratched me about five hours ago. It got the pad of my finger, drew blood. My fingertip has not stopped hurting and it is quite swollen. I've been whining on Facebook and at least two people have said: get medical attention. For a scratched finger? Really? Am I going to expire in the night?

And I am also a bit unimpressed with the owners of the cat. A sticker on the door saying 'Attack Cat on Duty' is all very well but most people are going to take that as a joke - I really didn't expect the bastard thing to go for my hand like that.

Apart from the obvious keep it clean, I do think that people who post stuff that's going straight in the recycling bin are more to blame than the feline Freddies - after all, they're making rustling sounds and then a tiny little pink thing emerges through the brushes - if you make yourself look and sound like a small, pink mouse, how is the innocent feline inside supposed to be able to tell the difference?

Nobody has that problem here - I've got one of those metal shields that are supposed to stop somebody reaching in with tools to open the door, so they would be completely safe if DTwatCats were to go hunting for letterbox mice.

Oh god what a bunch of snowflakes we're turning into. No wonder the NHS is on its knees.

This ^

It wouldn't even occur to me to call 111 for a cat scratch 🙄

Wash a cat scratch or bite with soap and running water then use an antiseptic. Cats use their paws to bury their feces so you need to watch for signs of infection.

A scratch I wouldn't worry about. However I was attacked as I tried to stop my cat and the neighbours cat fighting both fuckers went for me instead and I ended up on 10 days of antibiotics (2 types) and had to find a travel clinic and pay for a tetanus [my local surgery didn't have any tetanus in stock and it was either pay or go to A&E for one!!)

I am a multi-cat owner, including a couple of utter gits.

If it is a scratch (which is way more likely), it will swell and then settle - I suspect it's kind of an allergic reaction.

I've never been bitten to break the skin, but have had dog bites. If you go to A and E, you will be given a tetanus immunoglobulin injection (different to the vaccine) whether your vaccines are up to date or not. Just in case.

You may also be given antibiotics. If you genuinely believe it is a bite and not a scratch, might be worth going to A and E.

Be prepared for a long wait though.
