Visiting a farm when pregnant?

24 weeks pg with DC3.
DCs 1&2 want to go to a farm we’ve been to before. It’s a working farm as well as being open to visitors - all the usual animals, sheep, cows pigs etc.
Am I right in thinking we are coming to the end of lambing season, so it should be more than fine?
And despite the whole lambing thing - how dangerous is it really when pregnant?

Make sure you wash your hands if you do pet any of the animals and you will be fine .Sheep when lambing can pass on a bacteria i think it is if i am right that can cause miscarriage but the farm would be aware of that and i would imagine there would be warning signs that anyone pregnant would avoid that area .Being open to the public they will have to follow all the health and safety rules.

As Hearthside says, as long as you wash your hands & follow h&s rules all should be well.

Sheep should all be lambed by now and the main risk to a pregnant woman is the ‘cleaning’ which is the leftovers basically immediately after a sheep gives birth.

Definitely just wash hands and you’ll be a-ok.

Hi. I’m involved in farm experiences for city children. My advice is not to touch any newborn or young animals (some are late), keep hands off gates or anywhere animals might rub against and follow proper hand washing practice - not just antibac gel -, soap and hot water and a thorough hand scrub. Also, keep your hands away from your ears, eyes, nose, mouth, face while you’re exposed. If you’re walking through areas where there might be animal poo, think about how you might remove or clean your shoes and how you’ll hand wash - amazing how many adults will take of muck covered wellies and tuck into a sarnie.

Having said all that I kidded a goat in an assisted birth and didn’t know I was several weeks pregnant. I had additional testing and all was completely fine. But we all have different immune systems and are exposed to/gain resilience against different germs.

I live on a working farm. No sheep or pigs .
My friend lived on one with sheep and had her family.
Ring the farm and tell them and see what they say. With it being as you say I imagine it's pretty safe as they have pretty stringent checks .

Cool Smile
I’m quite an obsessive hand washer when we go anywhere with animals anyway!
Looks like DS will get to see his favourite “fluffy cows” (Highland Cows Grin) afterall!
