I’ve always seen 25 as the cut off point of a young adult however it seems in recent years like this has extended to 30.

Legally ? 18 -14.

UnicornBrexit · 31/05/2019 13:01

typo

18-24

steppemum · 31/05/2019 13:16

I would have said 18-25 too

User1010 · 31/05/2019 13:36

I’m not quite sure why it seems to be being extended. I’m not sure if it’s now down to the lifestyle people have.

Under 24

BlackPrism · 31/05/2019 14:06

In the literary sense? 13-18 ish, 18-25 is New Adult.

I think In the social sense 18-26 Is what I'd say.

Scientists have discovered that the way we live means that brain adolescence has essentially been delayed so it ends at 23, not 18. Can't remember where I read that but a quick google will show it.

BlackPrism · 31/05/2019 14:08

At 24 I can't say I feel like I'm not a young adult... most of my friends still live with their parents, I still have exams this year, most don't own cars or drive.

Gotaprettypup · 31/05/2019 14:09

I would have said 16-21 personally but I guess we are expecting less and less and therefore get less...we are keeping youngsters in a childish state for longer now...so I guess 21 to 26 now...

Mrsjayy · 31/05/2019 14:12

30 bloody hell that really is pushing it ! Probably up to 25 is better

Mrsjayy · 31/05/2019 14:14

My Dc had a mortgage at 24 of her own accord no help from us I wouldn't class her as young adult

Proseccoinamug · 31/05/2019 14:19

16-25 I think.

Yet if she needed to claim benefits she would be classed as a ‘young adult’, mrsjayy and her student finance would still be means tested according to your income.

Unfair, I don’t agree with it either.

User1010 · 31/05/2019 14:29

I’m somewhat believe it’s due to increase in life expectancy and people leaving home later.

And if it's anything you can be charged for they stop being children at 12-14.

Aprillygirl · 31/05/2019 14:34

18,19,20,21,22,23,24,25 and 43.

Hortz · 31/05/2019 14:34

The prefrontal cortex of the brain is still maturing up to age 25. I do think it's 25 year old as a young adult but maybe that's because I'm so old.

justasking111 · 31/05/2019 14:35

When you get your first mortgage, gawd that ages you...

KneelJustKneel · 31/05/2019 14:36

Many 25 year olds around here already have kids, with one in school, houses etc. Not really "young."

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 31/05/2019 14:38
  1. At the time of writing Grin
ooooohbetty · 31/05/2019 14:49

My children had jobs and mortgages when then were 25. I'd say they were adults after the age of 18. Just adults.

RomanyQueen1 · 31/05/2019 14:50

16 - 24

LoafofSellotape · 31/05/2019 14:55

18- 21

Why are people saying 16,16 is a teen not an adult ?Confused

Aprillygirl · 31/05/2019 15:03

Just because someone has a mortgage and/or kids at 25 doesn't make them old!

BrokenWing · 31/05/2019 15:15

In Scotland you are an adult at 16. I would say an young adult was 16-24 max.

Mrsjayy · 31/05/2019 15:40

Young adult just conjurs up images of irresponsible teenagers stumbling along it is very unfair

Mrsjayy · 31/05/2019 15:41

Nobody is saying they are "old" *aprillygirl" if they have kids and houses .
