Job advert with spelling and grammar mistakes

I'm job hunting at present and saw a vacancy today for a job that I could easily do and would be perfect for me (office type job but not PR). The only reservation I have is that there are some major spelling and grammar mistakes in the advert. The fact there are so many has got me wondering if these are accidental or on purpose to see if candidates are observant?! One is 'your' instead of 'you're', another spells 'responsibilities' as 'respondsibilities' and ironically finishes with 'attention to detail is imperative' with the last word also being misspelt. There are 2 more mistakes but I won't bore you with them! Do you think it's a test or am I overthinking this? If I got asked for an interview I would be worrying beforehand if I had to prove my observation skills to them or would I just embarrass myself? Could it simply have not been spell checked / proof read? As you've probably guessed I'm a bit out of touch with the interview processes these days!

My word.. sounds quite unprofessional! Even if they were trying to see if future employees would pick up the mistakes... Would you want to work for a company whose culture is that of 'oh didn't you see the deliberate mistake I made here'?

AnneTwackie · 30/05/2019 23:32

I wouldn’t want to work for someone who is so unprofessional.

EdtheBear · 30/05/2019 23:36

My guess is that its a small business. The person who posted it is dyslexic and relies on the office staff to get it right.

But I'm surprised that the computer spell checker never picked some of them up.

I replied to an advert thinking that the mistakes were a secret test but they weren't and the recruitment consultant was very offended.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 30/05/2019 23:45

It's not a test.

Butterfly98 · 30/05/2019 23:48

I wouldn't want to work for a company that is constantly testing you or trying to catch you out. It would come across as sneaky to say the least. That's why I was wondering if it was some sort of new / quirky approach that I haven't yet heard about in the job market? Personally, I think the advert makes them look like numpties and unprofessional! On second thoughts I will give this one a miss!

If it's a test, it's badly misjudged. Don't apply.
If it's genuine, they're unprofessional. Don't apply.

SlimGin · 30/05/2019 23:57

I think you should still apply.
Yes it's unprofessional and I highly doubt it's a test, but a job's a job and if it's otherwise perfect you should go for it.

Aquamarine1029 · 31/05/2019 00:08

Noooo. You'll either be working for an idiot or with an idiot. If it's some kind of absurd "test", you'll be working for an arsehole. Hard pass all around.
