Two women go on the run getting themselves into deeper and deeper shit until they finally commit suicide.

I find it really depressing. So what am I missing?

I’d opt for either Michael Madsen or Harvey Keitel over Brad. He looks like he came out of a manual called Banal Good Looks.

The only thing I ever liked him in was Burn After Reading where he played a dimwitted gym bunny and was very funny.

I've just watched this on Netflix. I take back what I said earlier, it's brilliant.
Watch it again people!!

NoTheresa · 31/05/2019 21:19

Don’t get it either.Confused

Halimeda · 31/05/2019 21:26

Oh good, ssd, nice to hear someone newly enjoying it!

ssd · 31/05/2019 23:25

I seen it when it first came out back in the day, but now I'm more mature.... I appreciate it much more.

Absolutepowercorrupts · 31/05/2019 23:46

I also saw it when it first came out and I bloody loved it. Fantastic film with two Female leading characters. Louise was always stronger but Thelma had been broken by that fuck awful Daryl. Brad Pitt was the eye candy and a truly shit actor. Also a stellar lesson in if it seems to good to be true then it probably is.
My absolute favourite part is when Louise shoots Harlan in the car park. She says when a woman is crying like that she ain't having a good time. That touched my soul. It made me realise that when I was raped and sexually assaulted it wasn't my fault. So op yabu

Absolutepowercorrupts · 31/05/2019 23:49

Sorry, didn't mean to get so personal there, the film means a lot to me and I completely understand why the ending is such a let down for others. I have a different perspective

RuffleCrow · 01/06/2019 08:09

Actually having rewatched last night I'm having to review my position on Brad. When i was closer to the age he is in the film he seemed unbelievably hot. Now I'm 38 he just looks way too young, and actually a bit skinny. Think I'm gonna have to go with Jimmy like everyone else now Grin.

Alsohuman · 01/06/2019 08:42

I watched it again last night too. I knew I loved it but I’d forgotten just how good it is. If you haven’t seen it, at least give it a try.

dudsville · 01/06/2019 08:48

It's women saying they'd rather die free than take the limited pickings men offer them. It's a fabulous film.

RuffleCrow · 01/06/2019 08:54

Yep, some cracking lines in it that really sum up that attitude - where Thelma says they should go to the police and Louise says something like "200 people saw you dancing with him - no-one's going to believe it was rape. We don't live in that kind of world". Sadly as true today as the day it was written Sad

Halimeda · 01/06/2019 12:17

And do the people who find the ending ‘depressing’ say the same of the very similar ending of another buddy-movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid?

pandatracks · 01/06/2019 12:52

Can't wait to watch again! Watched over and over as a teen. Delighted it's on Netflix :)

LadyRannaldini · 01/06/2019 21:43

Wasn't too keen on the story, it dragged a bit, but the locations were amazing, Arches is one of my very favourite National Park, but they took many liberties with the editing!

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 01/06/2019 21:50

BP 🤷🏻‍♀️

dreamyspires · 01/06/2019 22:02

Yes I found Geena Davies irritating too. Susan Sarandon was brilliant though.

RuffleCrow · 02/06/2019 08:11

Yes, Susan Sarandon has such magnetism. She can convey more in a single steely glance than most actors do in a whole film. Love her in this. She seems to have disappeared from screens of late. hope she's doing ok.
