AIBU to bloody hate cyclists

I have just trailed three cyclists during the course of the day. Honest to God, why don't they just pull over and let people pass?

A lycra clad prick reinforced my hatred of arrogant cyclists just today. According to the highway code, when they are approaching an island, they are supposed to give way to traffic already on the island like other road users have to. Not as this arrogant prick did - pull out in front of me then cut straight across me so he could take the last exit. Prick. Would have tried to run him down if I was the violent type and didn't care about getting in trouble. My husband had the same thing yesterday with one. Sorry but they're not all angels as some on MN make them out to be. 😠

Jemineye · 01/06/2019 18:13

YANBU OP, some of them really do think they own the road/footlath/bridleway and behave how the hell they like, sod everyone else.

HouseName · 01/06/2019 18:35

So this is a path cyclists are entitled to ride on. One person didn't control their dog, cyclist avoided it so that the dog didn't get hurt, fell, hurt himself and the conclusion is that the cyclist deserved to be hit?

Why are you ignoring the bit where she said it was a shared path, with pedestrians who were elderly, children etc. and the cyclist was speeding? Entitled to ride on the path yes, but with due consideration to all the other people who were also entitled to use it.

Every person on this thread who has given a perfectly valid example of cyclists behaving badly has been called a liar and told it wasn't the cyclist at fault. There are a lot of twats in the world and some of them are cyclists.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 01/06/2019 18:49

^Sorry but they're not all angels as some on MN make them out to be*

Where has this happened on this thread though? People have all agreed that twats are twats, mode of transport is irrelevant.

Although the difference is that in a car, that twat is highly likely to kill you. Another 4 people already dead that way today, another 1 before bedtime, statistically speaking.

But yeah sure, it's bikes that are the biggest problem we face because they "all" think they own the road, or whatever prejudiced bullshit is next on the bingo card.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 01/06/2019 18:53

"Why are you ignoring the bit where she said it was a shared road, with cyclists who were elderly, children etc. and the driver was speeding? Entitled to drive on the road yes, but with due consideration to all the other people who were also entitled to use it."

Look at that, it works for cars and cyclists too. Yet nobody seems to argue this way round...

Vulpine · 01/06/2019 18:55

Feffy - 3 uses of the word 'prick' in one post! You claim not to be 'the violent type' but your language is pretty aggressive

Poppyinafieldofdreams · 01/06/2019 18:59

We get held up all the time by aggressive drivers forcing us off the road. They are in a permanent state of road rage shouting and swearing at us.

We live on what used to be a very quiet residential area. It is now used as a free all day car park by workers at nearby businesses. The parked cars create a chicane effect which holds other motorists up and so they appear to take it out on us.

I put most of this down to the recent population surge. It would be a good idea if before you let ten million new migrants in you improved the infrastructure,

It is now standard practice to use roads on residential areas as free car parks with cars parked on junctions, on pavements and blocking driveways accompanied by much swearing and road rage.

The police, councils and highways shuffle the responsibility about.

Thankfully due to global warming we will all be gone soon and what’s left of nature can have the planet back again.

So relax you won’t have to fume about cyclists much longer.

On the plus side we don’t pay road tax .........ha ha ha.......and are slim enough to still wear our Lycra ......

HouseName · 01/06/2019 19:11

There you go again! Clearly it works both ways, I believe I have already said so on a previous post but you simply don't accept or believe that there is fault on both sides.

WiltedDaffs · 01/06/2019 19:41

“There are a lot of twats in the world and some of them are cyclists.“

Not seen anyone denying that, however some of the twats in the world are drivers. Since drivers outnumber cyclists quite considerably it follows that the majority of the worlds twats get behind a wheel. Yet no one declares they want to run over the twats using four wheels, only those using two.

contentedsoul · 01/06/2019 20:14

I cycle to work every day come rain or shine. I'm completely aware that cars have priority of the roads, they pay road tax for starters...
I keep as close to the edge as possible, often cycling inside the White lines or between the double yellow lines - problem is most drivers don't give a shit about me. I've had my elbow knocked several times by door mirrors, drivers overtaking me as I approach a left hand turn and then cutting straight in front!!!
What really pisses me off are the weekend cyclists that ride two breast taking half the sodding road up, yes they are utter selfish bastards and deserve all the aggro they get!

jasjas1973 · 01/06/2019 20:23

Would have tried to run him down if I was the violent type and didn't care about getting in trouble

Yet another entitled driver who would condone robbing a child of their dad, a Mother of their son (if only you was angry enough!)
wtf do you think happens to flesh and blood when hit with 1.5 tons of metal?

Apart from getting to the exit before you, what exactly did he/she do to deserve death?

He may have been riding irresponsibly but that does not deserve your hatred.... reserve that for child killers and wife beaters please.

redspider1 · 01/06/2019 20:30

So looking forward to my cycle ride tomorrow thanks to all the lunatic drivers out there!

CassianAndor · 01/06/2019 20:37

600 posts in and there are still fuckwits going on about road tax. Absolutely beggars belief.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 01/06/2019 20:38

There you go again! Clearly it works both ways, I believe I have already said so on a previous post but you simply don't accept or believe that there is fault on both sides.

Where am I going again? Confused
And when have I said don't accept or believe there is fault on both sides? I said it earlier (and probably on every single one of these nasty threads) - there are twats on 2 wheels and 4. And I also said earlier on this thread that I drive tens and tens of thousands of miles more than I cycle.

Do you need me to swear an oath in blood or something before you'll deem it sufficient? Even though I'm not the one making hate-filled death wishes like several pp on this thread...

HouseName · 01/06/2019 20:40

“There are a lot of twats in the world and some of them are cyclists.“

Not seen anyone denying that

Well you need to look a bit harder because there are loads of them on here. Whatever the scenario, it's somehow the fault of the other, even pedestrians.

CassianAndor · 01/06/2019 20:40

Feffy you actually think that running over and probably killing a cyclist is in some way a proportionate response? You sound extremely violent, no ‘if’ about it. Nasty piece of work.

HillRunner · 01/06/2019 20:45

contentedsoul - so you have been repeatedly hit by dangerous drivers, but the people you're really angry with are other cyclists? Hmm Confused

Also - cars do NOT have priority on the road. Get out of the gutter when you're cycling and you will find that you are considerably safer. You'll have the ability to move left when they pads dangerously close, for a start.

HillRunner · 01/06/2019 20:53

pass^ dangerously close

contentedsoul · 01/06/2019 20:58

@HillRunner - only the selfish buggers that feel entitled to stem the traffic by cycling two abreast.

Their arrogance to other road users is appalling.

Joeydoesntsharefood2 · 01/06/2019 21:02

Yanbu OP
When I first passed my test I had to perform an emergency stop after a cyclist who was riding on the pavement pulled out into the road infront of me without any former warning. I’ve also seen plenty travel in the direction of against traffic on roads. Besides, overtaking is one of the most dangerous manoeuvres drivers have to do. Even if the adjacent road is completely clear you can have another vehicle speed down & you’re f**ked. I think cycle lanes should be everywhere & cyclists shouldn’t be allowed to use roads where a cycle lane is.
Cars aren’t allowed to hold up traffic but cyclists are. Would just be easier for everyone if they were completely separated from another.

HillRunner · 01/06/2019 21:07

only the selfish buggers that feel entitled to stem the traffic by cycling two abreast. Their arrogance to other road users is appalling.

More arrogant than the cars that actually hit you ? Really?

Have you bothered to read the posts on this thread explaining why two abreast is neither selfish nor arrogant, but actually safe? Or bothered to read what the highway code says about it?

FarTooMuchWashing · 01/06/2019 21:08

Glad to know you hate me OP, just because of the perfectly lawful means of transport I use to get to work.

HillRunner · 01/06/2019 21:09

Cars aren’t allowed to hold up traffic

What do you think a traffic jam is? The majority of delays on car journeys are not caused by cyclists, not even close.

Vulpine · 01/06/2019 21:16

Cars doing 3 point turns hold up traffic

HillRunner · 01/06/2019 21:22

Cars doing all kind of things hold up traffic, but other drivers don't register those things because they think the other car has a right to be there. They don't think the cyclist has a right to be there at all, so any delay at all is unacceptable.

If you meet another car going to opposite way on a single track road, how many people would complain about the delay caused while you/they reverse to a passing space? No one would. But a slight delay caused by a cyclist going about their day? Outrageous!

Just look above... a poster hates cyclists because one caused them to do an emergency stop soon after they passed their driving test. How many times do you think that poster has witnessed or been affected by dangerous driving? It's likely to be a lot, but they think of those as isolated incidents, not an excuse to hate all car drivers.
