I have just trailed three cyclists during the course of the day. Honest to God, why don't they just pull over and let people pass?

Lol
Tax and insure cyclists!!! Menaces on the road.

HillRunner · 31/05/2019 09:03

Please excuse me if I don't trust your idea of what is best for me and my daughter.

Isn't it generally accepted that minimising pollution is beneficial for children, and for the world that they will inherit? Cyclists as a group are doing the younger generation a massive favour. They are making the world a safer healthier place.

I find it odd that people are crowing about cycling not being so healthy because it involves breathing car fumes..... who is creating those fumes?

WhiteDust · 31/05/2019 09:03

ISN'T not is!!

MrPan · 31/05/2019 09:04

'tax bikes'. And tax cars while we're at it!!

morallybankruptme · 31/05/2019 09:06

@MrPan tax 'em all!!

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 31/05/2019 09:06

I would not choose to ride on a pothole ridden road on a bicycle. Next to fast moving cars. Being covered in fumes.
If all the polluting, human-killing machines stayed away (or used non-deadly, non-polluting transport) from these unsuitable country roads full of the death-trap blind bends you refer to, then everyone will be alive, safer and more healthy all round. Problem solved.

I also do not mean to cause offence.
So why the aggressive comments then? Why not ask in a civil way why people wave you on/do other cycling thing you don't understand, rather than immediately go on the defensive and assume we're doing it to kill you for kicks?

We merely have different views on safety.
Don't we both want to get to our destinations alive and unharmed?

It is a proven fact that me on a bike is more vulnerable than me in my car, so it is on me to ensure that car me acts accordingly around bike me.

WhiteDust · 31/05/2019 09:08

Who are you responding to Buzz ?

LonelyTiredandLow · 31/05/2019 09:09

I agree pollution is bad. Which is why I don't position my face meters away from multiple exhaust pipes whilst I exercise. Out of choice.

Would love to have an electric car or some other viable means, but you won't catch me on a main road on a bicycle. Sad as that may be, I choose to cycle on designated paths off-road. Of which there are plenty.

HillRunner · 31/05/2019 09:10

Totally. I drive around cyclists in the way that I would want cars to drive around me when I'm cycling.

Most cyclists also drive. If most drivers also cycled then I think most of the views we see on this thread would be retracted. It's the large number of drivers who see cyclists as 'other' that are the problem.

Allhailthesun · 31/05/2019 09:10

YANBU.

Don’t mind people getting from A to B but the sporting lot do my head in. I don’t drive round velodromes cyclists shouldn’t be using working roads for time trials.

LonelyTiredandLow · 31/05/2019 09:11

WhiteDust I think it is meant to be me. Now apparently I am the aggressive one not the swearing rude poster Hmm

LonelyTiredandLow · 31/05/2019 09:12

Buzz to coin your own phrase to me "FFS, get over yourself!"

MrPan · 31/05/2019 09:12

Tax horses, tractors, those mobility scooter things, childrens push-along scooters, pedestrians who cross any road, pets that walk on any road, birds that land on roads ( free-loading bastards), 'heavy' molecules that cause pressure on the roads surface.

Tax 'em all!!

morallybankruptme · 31/05/2019 09:13

Exactly pan

WhiteDust · 31/05/2019 09:13

Lonely Ah! Ok! The firing line keeps changing!! GrinGrinGrin

MrPan · 31/05/2019 09:13

Thank you. You know it makes sense.

HillRunner · 31/05/2019 09:17

allhailthesun So you never, ever drive for leisure then? You never drive somewhere for a day out or a holiday? All your car journeys are strictly for essential work journeys that can't be done in any other way?

Bollocks. Why is your leisure more important than a cyclist's leisure? Just because you choose to make your leisure journeys in a motorised vehicle?

HillRunner · 31/05/2019 09:19

Pan - you left out those leaves that fall from the trees on to the roads. They definitely need taxing....

MrPan · 31/05/2019 09:20

Working roads! There's a new definition.

So children shouldn't play on roads? Horses walk/trot on roads etc...

because they are working roads...

Really? Read it back to yourself.

MrPan · 31/05/2019 09:21

Oh yes those leaves that thud heavily leaving pock marks on the surface leading to pot holes and the like. Down with that sort of thing. Tax 'em.

HillRunner · 31/05/2019 09:23

LonelyTiredandLow

I agree pollution is bad. Which is why I minimise the amount of miles I spend in a vehicle pumping out exhaust fumes, by cycling where possible. Out of choice.

Which of our choices actually helps the problem? And why does my choice mean that lots of posters on this thread see me as fair game for hatred and abuse?

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 31/05/2019 09:25

I agree pollution is bad. Which is why I don't position my face meters away from multiple exhaust pipes whilst I exercise. Out of choice.
What about if bike me is going to work? Or an any other appointment? Why is it just accepted that cars have the unrestricted right to pollute and it's up to everyone else to avoid it?

Would love to have an electric car or some other viable means, but you won't catch me on a main road on a bicycle. Sad as that may be, I choose to cycle on designated paths off-road. Of which there are plenty.
Not near me there aren't. So when I do cycle for leisure, I like to go out around dawn when the roads are virtually deserted because it makes the birdsong and the view so much nicer; let alone the lack of people trying to bully me off a single track country road. Is that acceptable?

(WhiteDust it looks like you and Lonely have found each other, so is your question answered?)

WhiteDust · 31/05/2019 09:34

Buzz If you put a star at the start and end of the post you are quoting they will appear bold.
Give it a try. Go on!

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 31/05/2019 09:35

why? what's wrong with italics?

Grin
LonelyTiredandLow · 31/05/2019 09:35

Buzz - you choose to go onto a road. No one makes you. If you don't feel safe with your choice then make a different one.
