paid but I didn't start the job

I attended an induction for a job but decided after I had been given my hours that this wasn't for me (as they changed them all to nights!!).

I rang them, and they said that I didn't have to work notice because I was a temp member of staff.

All fine - this is a large company so I was told to not sign the contract and to withdraw the application online. All good - did that.

I've just checked this month's statement and I've been paid around 600 pounds.

I have rang the HR line but they don't have an answer - they are "ringing me back" - this was 5 days ago.

I don't want the money and the fact that it is sitting in my bank is making me wholly nervous.

Is this a mistake on their behalf? I'm almost certain that it will be a mistake, as I'm not entitled to any money as I didn't work!

Has anyone else had this trouble? I feel so stressed about it

Should you have been paid for the induction?

LouiseMiltonSpatula · 30/05/2019 10:42

Isn’t that just your pay for the induction? How long was the induction and what was the salary for the job?

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 30/05/2019 10:59

How many induction days did you do? May be your pay for this.

MereDintofPandiculation · 30/05/2019 11:27

Put the money in an easy access savings account and forget about it. Then it'll still be there if they ever do want you to repay it.

It's also worth emailing them with the fact that it's been paid that you informed them by phone on such-and-such a date, and that they had promised to let you know whether the money was yours. Then you've got an audit trail. After that, it's their problem entirely, and you can stop worrying.

I'm not sure why money sitting in your bank would make you nervous but, anyway, most inductions are paid for.

jackstini · 30/05/2019 12:36

Sounds like pay for a week's induction to me. You would not usually attend an induction for free

UCOinanOCG · 30/05/2019 12:38

How long was your induction?

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 30/05/2019 12:40

My guess it's for the induction days.

iwantavuvezela · 30/05/2019 12:43

Just dont spend the money until you get an answer - no need to be nervous - it is either payment for induction - then its yours and they will tell you this, or its an error, and you have reported it - so there is not real issue here - you may even have an unexpected windfall.

why not ask HR if it their policy is to pay for induction days

ElizaPancakes · 30/05/2019 12:56

As others say, just don't spend it. Why are you so stressed about it?
