CARPET BEETLES!!!! Help

Posting here for traffic

Brand new house, been living in a year.
Carpets on stairs, landing and 3 bedrooms - cheap carpet from carpet right.
About 3 months ago I noticed 4 of these little bugs around my stairs, didn't take much notice but then another appeared in my sons bedroom - Googled it and it came out as carpet beetles 🤢 (I'm so ocd with cleaning it made me feel vile!) so we had the house fumigated by a professional pest control man.
A few weeks later, another bloody beetle! And then another one not that long after
Just found another bug, this time in my kitchen and when I google it, it comes out as carpet beetle larvae!!!!!
I've attached two photos - you have to zoom in.
What the fuck- can anyone shed any light on this????

Eeeeek! (I’m now frantically looking on my dark carpets....🕵️‍♂️)

Fumigation will kill beetles and larvae in residence. Unless it has long-persisting chemicals, it won't necessarily prevent re-infestation.

Beetles can fly.

We occasionally see these and I do worry about it a bit, but they are not all over the place by any means.

In fact, in our old flat which had hard floors throughout, I used to see them on the kitchen wall fairly often. They were usually high up. I assumed they’d come in from outside as we often have the windows open.

Having seen them in a carpet-free home makes me less inclined to panic about seeing them now; but when does it become a problem/an infestation?

Indorex? I’ve used it for flea treatment but it had the welcome side effect of treating other nasties too. It keeps working for up to a year.

They can come from birds nests etc, not just carpets. We have not had so many since we tidied up the vegetation that grows up and around the house, especially near vents. It had been there unchecked a while and there were old decaying nests and trapped debris from dead leaves. It looks better with newer growth so we keep on top of it now.
If you like the birds nesting, you can get sparrow terraces that can be cleaned when they have finished.

I have found some of these for the first time this year, and having googled them they freaked me out a bit. Most of the ones we found were in our lounge, mainly on the window sills. Google says that they have already hatched by now and are trying to get outside, hence on the window sill. They gave me the creeps, but we haven't seen any for at least 2 weeks now. We moved all the furniture and couldn't find where they were coming from, we're hoping they are gone.

My big worry is that they will come back, because it says they are pretty difficult to get rid of. We have got 2 budgies, so I don't think it would be a good idea to get the house fumigated, but if they come back we will have to do something.

Our house is 16 years old, the carpet in the lounge is wool and about 7 years old. These beetles apparently only eat the wool. We changed some of our carpet about 18 months ago, to polypropylene (much better than wool) and we haven't seen a beetle on the new carpet.

Even though ours seem to have gone, I am worried that they will come back.

I wish I hadn't read this, as I'm sure that's what we had. I kept spotting one or two each day in DS's bedroom, mainly on window sill for a few weeks a month or two ago.
They seem to have vanished now though with no treatment- and no holes in fabrics or itchy rashes! (Just googled them to see whether I should have been worried).
Hopefully yours might just disappear too?

You can get various kinds of sticky trap on Amazon, or you can make your own from double sided duct tape, card and a suitable bait.

SilentSister · 30/05/2019 12:45

We always have a few every year, they come from outside. Just hoover them up, or throw them outside. They really aren't harmful, just little beetles. Unless you have hundreds, I wouldn't use chemicals.
