Loo brushes

AIBU to ask... those of you who don't use loo brushes as they are, quite frankly, disgusting, how do you clean plop marks off the inside of the toilet?

Came into the downstairs toilet this morning to discover a child had left skid marks inside the loo, and as it hadn't been used since yesterday afternoon they had dried on. Put bleach down to 'soften' it, left 5 minutes and flushed but the turd tracks marks still remained. Only way I could get them off was with the loo brush!

I know many people think they are disgusting and don't have them, but what do you do instead??

But those pads are £3 for four flushable pads. So if you used them a few times a day (you have a large family for example or someone with a medical problem) that could cost you £3 per day MINIMUM!

I’m skanky- I use a loo brush, fill the holder up with bleach enough to cover the brush, and change every other day🤷🏻‍♀️

There are silicone, non bristle toilet brushes, though still a toilet 'brush' I suppose.

motherheroic · 30/05/2019 11:25

The trick is to get the bleach on as soon as the track is left.

AnAC12UCOinanOCG · 30/05/2019 11:26

Buy a toilet brush.

LaurieMarlow · 30/05/2019 11:29

Just use a loo brush and keep it clean 🤷‍♀️

I’ve never understood the angst on here frankly.

Thesuzle · 30/05/2019 11:30

Not all toilet brushes are created equal
I have one very good one with two brush heads to it, under the rim, and general bowl brushing with a strong handle ,
The other in the downstairs loo, is a weakening and next to useless, but for the life of me i cant remember where I bought the good one from,

Smolo · 30/05/2019 11:31

When we moved into our new house and with Mumsnet in my mind I tried to avoid buying loo brushes. I lasted three days before I had to go out and get some. I do not understand how you keep your toilets clean without them. I have bought these brushes though which are easier to keep clean.

Omg... People don't own toilet brushes because they think they're disgusting?! I've heard everything now! Surely NOT having a toilet brush is much more disgusting. Only on Mumsnet Confused

Jarstastic · 30/05/2019 14:45

Duck fresh refill pads are not £3 for a pack of 4! (as stated upthread).

They cost £2.50-£3 for a pack of 12 at Ocado and Tesco, at least.

Usually use 1 a week per loo during weekly cleaning and 1 at other times. Perhaps more if visitors use them.
At other times, for our own use, a bit of bleach does the trick.

happyhillock · 30/05/2019 14:48

I use a toilet brush, it's kept clean

Gazelda · 30/05/2019 14:50

The Joseph Joseph loo brush is on offer on amazon at the mo.

averylongtimeago · 30/05/2019 15:06

Those duck pad things- don't they just add to the fat burg problem?
I certainly wouldn't want them flushed down my loo into our septic tank - where the build up would block it.

averylongtimeago · 30/05/2019 15:07

And besides, the only thing a loo brush brushes is a loo, you know that thing you per and poo in.
Plus you never have to touch the "business end".
You don't then brush your hair with it!

WhoWasIt · 30/05/2019 15:12

Flushing hell OP. You've opened a can of worms now. Before long there will be posters coming along with their pitchforks wailing for you to get your ducks ( toilet ducks ) in a row and LTB ( Leave The Brush ) If i were you i would Bog Off quick.

Siameasy · 30/05/2019 15:17

They are a necessary evil
As an aside when my DD was younger she did put the toilet brush in her mouth. 😂

mouldyhousemouldylife · 30/05/2019 15:20

I really don't see the problem with toilet brushes. Yes, they are technically gross, but they're for the toilet not your hair. They're in a holder, not on display, covered in shit and making the bathroom smell. People so uptight about them should get a grip... And a toilet brush.

Skyejuly · 30/05/2019 15:20

Just keep the brush clean?

RoseMartha · 30/05/2019 15:48

Buy a loo brush. Clean loo with brush. Disinfect and clean brush. Put brush in holder to use again.

I always keep a spare brush in case I need to dispose of current one. But I do certainly not throw it away after a couple of uses. Maybe a new one each year.

letsleepingbabieslie · 30/05/2019 18:00

Woah, hang on a sec. what’s all this about ‘don’t use toilet brush for your hair’?! That’s all I ever use. Leaves lustrous shine and the bleach traces keep my highlights fresh.

Dotis · 30/05/2019 19:27

Why would you not buy a toilet brush? Shock surely you cannot clean a toilet without a brush. Confused I use toilet cleaner and bleach every day

PerfectPeony2 · 30/05/2019 19:33

I’m skanky- I use a loo brush, fill the holder up with bleach enough to cover the brush, and change every other day

I’m obviously even more skanky than you then because I’ve never even replaced the bleach... for at least, a year...

eebagum · 30/05/2019 20:04

@whowasit very good, you were on a roll there, thought I'd take the plunge-r and join in with the puns as it loo-ks fun Grin

@perfectpeony2 Haha me neither. Even though I have a few spare in the cupboard as they are only about 40p from ikea!

@whatareyouonabout my mother in law, in her beautiful, pristine house, does not have loo brushes. Or clutter. Or a speck of dust anywhere. I wonder if it was so clean with 4 teenage sons though!

@motherheroic try telling that to my pre-teens, they don't seem to notice the mess they've made!

@averylongtimeago I agree, I wonder if they are like most "flushable" wipes that aren't actually as flushable as advertised!
