To ask for your worst experiences viewing houses?

Please cheer me up! I had the viewing from hell last night; the place was filthy and you could tell the Estate Agent was mortified. Due to other issues, I declined to put in an offer and have other viewings lined up, but I've started to exhaust my area for now and I'm feeling a little jaded.

Please tell me I'm not alone in backing away in horror and tell me all about the worst viewings you've had!

Oh- and I'm not a journo. The Daily Mail can piss off and write their own shitty copy.

Being young and foolish, me and DP went to look at a house which was too big for us and near the top of our budget. Our budget was very high for our age.

The woman selling spent the whole time making not-so-discreet inquiries as to why/how we had so much money.

She was also at pains to point out repeatedly how nicely the house had been decorated (it hadn't), how well-priced it was (it wasn't) and how quick it'd get snapped up (it didn't).

The house stunk of dog as well

We were looking for a house - seemed to find one that ticked all boxes and was very cheap. It turned out to be a massive detached house isolated in an otherwise crowded and very run-down area. We thought we'd go and take a look, but the gang of small kids who were throwing stones at out car put us off a bit :)

BTW I became expert at spotting odd camera angles that were concealing something odd. DP insisted we view one such place in spite of me spotting something odd. The entire front garden was taken up with totally incongruous Methodist Chapel with an uncertain future.

Another such turned out to be next door to a pub and as we rolled up I noticed hastily painted over graffiti on the garage door that had read "Fuck You".

I went to a few house viewings with a friend. We had some very bad luck with house viewings:

• At one the owner was showing us around. He was really creepy. When my friend mentioned her daughter, his eyes lit up and he asked way too many questions about her. My friend was considering putting in an offer and the seller started being quite pushy saying he'd lower the price for he, she was his first choice buyer etc. We reckoned he was planning on putting cameras around the house if she moved in with her daughter.

• At another one, the couple showed us around. They had a 5/6 month old baby. There was a bit of a weird atmosphere from him but they seemed really in love. When we came outside, my friend told me she'd had a ONS with the guy a couple of weeks before.

• One we went to had a massive dildo slap bang in the middle of the unmade bed. BOAK

• Another we went to on a Saturday morning had a woman fast asleep in the master bedroom which reeked of booze. We reckoned it'd been a big Friday night for her.

This was for a rental, first place myself and DP ever looked at.

It was through a private landlord, she greeted us outside and as she went to knock on the front door it just swung open, looked like the door had been previously kicked in and then just left that way.

Current tenants had clearly had a party the night before as the place was a mess, they were very clearly severely hungover and there was a random couple asleep in their bedroom.

They had also quite obviously been attempting to grow cannabis in the cupboard under the stairs.

The landlord was explaining her 'no pets policy' as one of the current tenant opened the back door to let their cat in.

BUT, it was ridiculously well priced for what it was/the area, the poor landlord was lovely and agreed to have the front door fixed there and then and it was a 5 minute walk from where I worked at the time so we took it!
