Hospital gowns

Have to go for a CT scan. My local hospital still uses gowns that tie at the back and I can never fasten these. So I have to walk from the changing room to the scan trying to hold the back closed. Any ideas on how to cope?

Maybe dont put your arms in, tie it at the front, turn it round then put arms in?

LivingDeadGirlUK · 29/05/2019 17:38

are the strings l9ng enough to wrap round and tie at the front?

Maybe Ask for two gowns and wear the second as a dressing down?

Didgets · 29/05/2019 17:38

They normally give you two. The second you wear like a dressing gown so your bum is covered.

MsChanandlerBoing · 29/05/2019 17:43

For scans and things ask for 2 gowns to wear as explained above. I’ve always been pointed to where the gowns and changing rooms are so you can take two if you want. If you’re an inpatient they shouldn’t give you two because in an emergency they should be able to stick things on you/examine you quickly.

They have pyjamas you can request, makes things a lot easier. The (open) gowns cause a triggering panic attack so are a huge no-no. They just don't advertise they have PJs, they do. Good luck.

Do you definitely have to wear a gown? I used to work in the CT department and people just wear their own clothes.

Likethebattle · 29/05/2019 18:48

I got given a gown for an operation, it had two ties left both on the same side of the gown 🙄 why even bother to give someone that?

Jennyw12 · 30/05/2019 09:32

Will definitely take a second gown and wear it as a dressing gown but do I still have to tie the first gown at the back?

I recently had a CT and never had to wear a gown. Just make sure I had no metal (bra off, not metal buttons or zips or jewellery). So I just made sure I wore metal free clothes.

Your hospital may be different though.

Jennyw12 · 30/05/2019 11:11

Think it depends on what is scanned. My appointment letter tells me I will have to undress and put a hospital gown on

Our hospital always advises us that we might like to take a dressing gown in.

My teenagers have to have multiple scans and X-rays to monitor their health condition....they have what they call their 'hospital clothes'.....crop top type bra with no underwires or hook and eye fasteners, t-shirts with no metallic print/embellishments, jeggings or jogging trousers with no rivets, metal buttons, etc.

They never have to change into gowns anymore, just explain to the person doing the scan that there is no metal whatsoever in your outfit. Failing that, take your own dressing gown and ask to keep it on.
