To ask you why I'm this exhausted?

Honestly, I'm so used to being this exhausted now that I never see it as a problem until I think about it.

It started this bad when I was pregnant with DC1 (2-3 years ago) and hasn't really subsided since. There's some weeks where I get bursts of energy but they're occasional and I usually end up just back exhausted, feeling physically drained and literally having to push myself to get anything done (and a lot of days things still don't get done)!

I'm starting to notice it a lot more again as I'm pregnant with DC2 and getting disappointed with myself because I'm not getting around to doing simple things like cleaning the kitchen and everywhere is just a wreck and I feel uncomfortable in my home.

Anyone know why this could be and what to do next?

Have you been to the doctor? It could potentially be any number of things but some blood tests could check for things like anaemia, vit D or B12 deficiency, all of which could cause exhaustion. You're particularly at risk of these while pregnant.

@Wellthatwastricky I haven't. I've got my booking appointment today - would they be able to check anything there?

I recall being given blood tests at least once during pregnancy but I can't remember whether this was as early as booking in, I think it may have been later. Discuss with your midwife today, but it would be worth making a separate appointment with your GP in case it is not related to pregnancy (if it's something not related to pregnancy it's always worth seeing your GP alongside the midwife).

If you tell your doctor they should organise blood tests. Emphasise that it has been ongoing and not just started with the new pregnancy

There are lots of things it could be. Many of them minor and easily treatable. Such as iron deficiency anaemia, folate deficiency, B12 and B group anaemia, low levels of vitamin D for starters. Hypothyroidism is another identifiable by a simple blood test too.

Hopefully you haven't got a GP that thinks it is normal to be permanently tired with young children. Although if you are not getting sufficient sleep this will exacerbate the tiredness

loie · 29/05/2019 13:22

@Hecateh it's definitely not about sleep, that's why it's always been a worry, I'm blessed with an extremely good sleeper and I'm someone who gets to bed at about 9pm (I can't last much longer than that!!)

That sounds just like me after having my second child, completely exhausted all the time, went to the GP, and had bloods done. Turned out to be an underactive thyroid, feel much better these days now that my dosage has stabilised.
