Morning after pill day after ovulation?

Split condom last night resulting in deep panic! I'm not on any other contraception and going by my body, I believe I either ovulated yesterday or it will be today. We are not ttc and I do not want another child anytime soon! Looking into the morning after pill and it says it works by preventing or delaying ovulation. What if I've already ovulated? Does this mean it wont work?! Thanks.

If you definitely don't want another child then I would look at other options fast - copper coil I believe would be a solution here (there is a 5 day window). Unfortunately when taken after confirmed ovulation the MAP is not effective because your body is already pumping out progesterone from the corpus luteum and the MAP effectively adds a massive additional dose.

I thought it stopped implantation?

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 29/05/2019 10:28

Trepla No, morning-after pill doesn't do that, or at least doesn't do it reliably.

OP, you need a copper coil.

What they said ^

I'm on holiday at the moment in Spain. How would I go about getting a coil fitted?

The pill should give you a period so it should flush out any eggs trying to implant.

Dunno if you have taken it before but I took it once and the next day I had a major case of the trots. To make things worse, I woke up and got up and couldn't see for about 60 seconds (you know when the blood rushes to your eyes when you get up to fast) which im guessing was also linked. So if you are somewhere different, know your way in the dark to the toilet just incase or things could get messy tomorrow xD

Copper coil within 5 days so by Sunday night - will you be home then? If so ring your local family planning for an apt.

NHS information about both forms of emergency contraception and explanation of why the MAP isn't effective after ovulation (or, in the case of some brands, even the LH surge that precedes ovulation). If the body is already naturally making progesterone, after ovulation, the MAP will not cause a period.
