Hi I have two ds who are quite small for their age. Ds1 is 12 and 143cm, ds2 is 9 and 130cm. I’d say that is somewhat below average but not that much. However they are by far the smallest in their classes, and many kids in ds2 class tower over ds1! I cannot remember that when I was their age that kids were that tall. Is this just a coincidence or are kids really getting taller these days?

And, yes, the feet! She is size 5 already . I'm a 7. DH is 15! I can't see her having a good choice of footwear as a young adult.

I’m delighted as I can finally buy trousers that are long enough (have been able to for about 10 years now). I’m 5’10” and was 5’7” or so when I started secondary school. Given this anecdotal effect I suspect we are all getting taller.

DM is 5’8” and said when she arrived in the U.K. in her 20s (she’s American) she was enormous...now she is much more average.

I’m 5’10” and have been a teacher for 30 years. When I started, there were very few boys below sixth form who were taller than me. Now they start to pass me in Y9. Definitely getting taller.

My 13 year old DS is 152 cm. He was 138cm at 10 years old, which was 50th percentile, now between the 25th and 50th so seems to have slowed down a bit. He still has half his baby teeth and no signs of puberty so I'm thinking he might hit the growth spurt a bit later than average.

I buy clothes based on height, not age. I think it would be better if clothing manufacturers just used height instead of age like European children's sizes.

lots of tall kids...

My DD is 4yo and currently wears size 6-7 clothes - she's the tallest child in her year (also the oldest as she has a Sept birthday). She's taller than all the boys, bar one who is the same height.
I'm 5.7 and DH is 5.11 so not super tall but I suspect both DC will be tall.

Buyitinbamboo · 01/07/2019 13:23

This has made me feel better as DD isn't 3 for another couple of weeks and is already 106cm. I don't want her feeling like a giant at school but sounds like she'll be ok!

Clothes are difficult she wore a 2-3 dress the other day and it was hanging off her but at the same time so short.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 01/07/2019 13:38

My nephew was always the tall kid. He's 21 and about 6 foot 2. He's had a good few inches over his mates.

My DD is 12 and about 4 foot 10/11. She's not got her periods yet so I predict a growth spurt soon. She has big feet though. I'm a 6 and she can wear my shoes with only a little gap.

I know what that's like. DD is very long in leg and body but she's super slim. Clothing her can be a nightmare.

Chouetted · 01/07/2019 13:48

My parents were taller than their grandparents (who grew up during the war) and I'm taller than my parents. I think this has been going on for a while.

Chouetted · 01/07/2019 13:49

Obviously I meant my grandparents, not theirs Grin

blimaarstom · 01/07/2019 17:15

my dd is 9 and 5'5... we do grow them big nowadays...
