Baby circumcised without mother’s permission. Certainly puts some overstepping boundaries stories into perspective. 😱 diply.com/33269/mom-has-grandparents-arrested-after-they-circumcise-her-son-with

I am disgusted that circumcision for "religious reasons" is still paid for by the NHS in my part of the UK.

jay55 · 27/05/2019 21:34

Makes you wonder about all those threads where the grandparents are pressuring mothers to let them spend time with babies alone.

StillMe1 · 27/05/2019 22:40

@jay55 Heavens you really can jump to conclusions. Grandparents are all out to chop bits off penises. That would be feasible if Grandparents had only grandsons.
Grandparents actually like or even love grandchildren and want to spend time with them. I don't see me ever harming any of my grandchildren whether they were boys or girls. I also hear of parents on here who leave their children with grandparents every working day without any cost to the parents or any consideration for the grandparents who are getting old and maybe have things they want to do. There are parents here who withdraw children for grandparents for the least wee infringement in their minds.
There are grandparents who would never like any boy or man to be circumcised

AmeriAnn · 27/05/2019 22:52

The consent should be from the person who is attached to the penis in question.

Justaboy · 27/05/2019 23:03

Its high time this practice was outlawed on poor babies its medeival and barbaric.

If someone wants their foreskin removed for whatever reason then they have to be 16 or 18 years of age.

Religious reasons should not apply like female genital mulitation equally the same!

AngelsOnHigh · 27/05/2019 23:20

StillMe1, agree with you entirely.

However, I work as a health professional and our clinic recently had grandparents arrive with their grandson to have him vaccinated.

I explained that we couldn't do that without the express consent of both parents.

Turns out, the parents were both against vaccination (I know, that's another story) and baby remains unvaccinated.

Good! What the hell goes through some grandparents minds?! It's NOT your child, it is not up to you!

Completely agree. I feel the same way about people drilling holes in their babies ears too Smile

WhiteRedRose · 28/05/2019 00:25

It's a 2yr old article OP. Is there an update to it or something?

StillMe1 · 28/05/2019 00:57

@AngelsOnHigh I would never overstep the mark with DGC. If I have to do anything DC gives me a "note". I feel like a child brandishing my "note" but at least that way people know what my instructions are.
Circumcision is horrible and lifelong and should only be for medical reasons.

Gingerkittykat · 28/05/2019 01:30

I want to know if the father signed the consent form or not, because that would make a huge difference.

Good point.

AngelsOnHigh · 28/05/2019 05:53

StillMe1. Nope, not even a note from parents would suffice with me.

I believe that if parents want something done for their DC then it is their responsibility to front up and take the time to do it themselves.

herculepoirot2 · 28/05/2019 06:55

I think circumcision should be illegal (can’t see the benefit to the child), but seeing as it isn’t, the grandparents would not have been breaking the law if they got consent from the father. I can’t tell from these articles whether that was the case. The doctor, it’s harder to say. It would depend on a “reasonable belief” in parental consent, I suspect. Certainly dreadful practice.

NauseousMum · 28/05/2019 07:50

Poor baby, really disgusting this husband (hopefully an ex now) went against the mum's wishes and took it upon himself to consent for his son.

The doctor, you can't prosecute him when the father consents however it should be that both parents have to. Not just one.

The husband is a cock. The grandparents just as so.

NauseousMum · 28/05/2019 07:53

Given the GM took him, either she did it alone and her son probably stood up for her after to stop the investigation, or he consented. Either way, he's been a shit dad and husband. If he'd supported his wife, it wouldnt have been dropped.

MerdedeBrexit · 28/05/2019 08:15

This happened in 2013. Why bring it up now?

FangsTasticBeast · 28/05/2019 09:09

My mum knows her, the father didn’t consent either he was in agreement with the mother

That surgery is round the corner from me, the gp is no longer there but I can’t remember if he is still practicing elsewhere as it was about 6 years ago now that it happened iirc. He should have been locked up imo
