Corbyn must go....

.... even if he says he will now support a second referendum, as no one will believe he’s saying it with a shred in sincerity.

Labour remainers need to get their arses into gear and ready themselves for a General Election later in the year. The longer they mess about on this, the less time they have to fight the election with a clear message on Brexit, and not only will they get a destroyed as a major political force, they’ll increase the risk of a Farage/Hard-Tory Government and a no-deal Brexit.

Corbyn won’t go, because of the change in the way the leader is selected the Momentum people will vote for him regardless. I have met people who joined labour to keep him in power.

I think labour will have to split

Oakenbeach · 27/05/2019 08:25

Well then, Labour is finished....

I agree. The Conservatives are sitting ducks at the moment, a properly led Labour party could annihilate them. In fact they would have gone months ago if Labour had been led by someone credible.

If he resigns he wouldn't stand again, so not matter how much Momentum would want him they couldn't have him.

Yes, but the Tories aren’t the problem now... we’re in a fast moving political world. The old order is crumbling. The longer Corbyn stays, the faster it will disintegrate entirely.

I agree.

It’s so ironic. The goalposts are wide open for Labour because the Tories have torn themselves apart over Europe - their Achilles heel since the 1970s - but because Labour have managed to put a covert Brexiteer in charge, they can’t take the opportunity.

It’s also so bizarre that we have a situation where the most leftwing Labour leader for a generation has common political ground with the most rightwing of Tory backbenchers.

Sexnotgender · 27/05/2019 09:23

My political leanings are definitely labour/liberal democrats.

Wouldn’t vote for either of them right now though.

I agree OP. Labour is really missing a trick here. We were discussing this with a load of bankers, entrepreneurs, etc the other night - I’ll be honest, we would represent the total antithesis to Corbyn voters basically. Even if Corbyn came out now and promised a second referendum, we wouid vote for that in s shot because it’s better to have 4 years of his crippling taxes than a no-deal Brexit (or any Brexit). There’s only so much damage Corbyn can do in 4 years, but Brexit is irreversible.
