Cute couple with an emotional story or is it icky and weird?
What's your opinion on it when you watch Friends?

I wonder if all the people saying it's fine, would be happy for their daughters to get into relationships with their fathers' friends who are thirty years their senior?

Quintella · 26/05/2019 22:58

Lots of people have said that would be weird but ultimately your child will be an adult so can make their own decisions.

HelenaDove · 26/05/2019 23:00

He was 21 years her senior

"im a whole person who can drink older than you"

emotionalaffair · 26/05/2019 23:01

Icky

JonSnowsFurCoat · 26/05/2019 23:02

I found a lot of the relationships in friends mis-matched. I didn’t mind Richard and Monica so much. They seemed so in love and right for each other. More so than Monica and Chandler

Phoebe and Mike on the other hand. As much as I liked Mike as a character, Phoebe should have ended up with David.

Also, Ross with his student. Now that was the real ick one!

Don’t forget Monica and the high school kid.

Quintella · 26/05/2019 23:04

I'd forgotten about Ross and the student. Yes, the ick factor was much higher in that situation!

Was David the scientist who went away to Minsk?

planesinthesky · 26/05/2019 23:11

Funnily enough, the one when Monica dated a younger guy - and she found out his age - had her genuinely shuddering with ick. But somehow it's more OK the other way round.

Monica was 27 when she dated Richard, she was a mature adult and way over the age of consent. A little different to being 26 and unwittingly taking the virginity of a 17 year old school boy.

JonSnowsFurCoat · 26/05/2019 23:21

Quintella

Yes David the scientist who she dumped for Mike while they were all away at that seminar.

Drogosnextwife · 26/05/2019 23:22

Icky and weird because he was her parents friend and new her as a child.

TheFaerieQueene · 26/05/2019 23:25

Who cares? It’s an ancient tv programme.

ChillaxingInMyKimono · 26/05/2019 23:29

True!

And agree with the PP that David was a much better match for Phoebe than Mike.

Comet456 · 26/05/2019 23:35

My ex husband (age 35) shagged the 18 year old neice of his best friend, someone he had watched grow up, and was surprised when his friend beat the crap out of him.

So yes, I don’t like the storyline.

HelenaDove · 27/05/2019 00:05

Well im a big lover of TV programmes much older than Friends Queene.

Much better than all the reality TOWIE Cheshire housewives shit.

GabsAlot · 27/05/2019 00:18

I also agree about phoebe and david-as much as i liked mike the fact that her and david could never get it togother was always sad then when he finally comes back shes gone off with someone else

ChillaxingInMyKimono · 27/05/2019 00:37

Mike was a great character, but David was perfect for Phoebe.

Emmapeeler · 27/05/2019 00:42

Loved Monica and Richard. Ok, maybe a bit ick but she was 25, and they seemed right together. Preferred them to Monica and Chandler.

Emmapeeler · 27/05/2019 00:43

Oh definitely Phoebe and David too. Not Mike.

NameChangedNoImagination · 27/05/2019 00:51

Monica and Richard
Phoebe and David
Chandler and Janice
Rachel in Paris
bangs gavel

Emmapeeler · 27/05/2019 00:59

Agreed name.

And Ross and... Julie? (They were getting a cat!)

NameChangedNoImagination · 27/05/2019 01:01

Yes good idea! I liked her a lot and he seemed quite decent to her while together, ignoring the whole Rachel thing.

Cwenthryth · 27/05/2019 01:06

Noooo Ross and Charlie, although she was way too good for him.

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 27/05/2019 01:21

It wasn’t clear how well they knew each other when she was a child.

NunoGoncalves · 27/05/2019 01:30

Anyone actually wanting to spend time with Monica is weird in my book.

PookieDo · 27/05/2019 01:33

She was way less whiny and shrill with Richard

ILoveEurovision · 27/05/2019 02:00

Can it be both? They were a cute couple but the fact he was a friend of her parents was definitely a bit icky.

My DH is 13 years older than me but I decided it wasn't too icky because he was slightly closer to my age than my parents' ages.
